SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 2025 PRESENT: Michael Anderson, Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner, Connell Collins, Avron Kahn, Fred Moore, Deputy Chief John Oakley, Paul Pitalis, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Howard Rosenburg, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Jeffrey Schvimer and Chairman Melissa Villegas EXCUSED: Police Chief Jesse Barnes, Deputy Chief Denise Franklin, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Jagman, Paul Kruszynski, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Director of Public Works Max Slankard and Trustee Edie Sue Sutker ABSENT: Marcie Claus, Scott Ford, Kimani Levy, Mark Penning, Vice Chairman Dennis Rizo and Bryant Smith CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Melissa Villegas called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Quorum was established. The minutes of the February 19th meeting were approved. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ provided updates on current and upcoming projects. QA discussion followed. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Oakley reviewed the PD February Report and gave a presentation on Public Event Planning and Risk Mitigation. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Eschner presented the FD February Report and informed the commission that a new ladder truck was recently put in service. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Commissioner Schvimer brought in an inexpensive arm band light that can be used by pedestrians and cyclists while out walking/biking at night to increase visability. This was a follow up to recent conversations about the commission potentially distributing inexpensive safety related items for use within the community.
