Skokie Telecommunications and Technology (STAT) Commission Meeting Minutes Date: Tuesday April 26, 2022 Time: 7 p.m. Location: Skokie Village Hall Conference Room A Attendees: Sam Corcione, Alex Franz, Ken Grossman, Christopher Oh and Scott Shamberg. Virtual attendance by Jimmy Gonzalez and Syed Mahmood. Absent Christopher Whitaker, Ninos Youkhana, James Paik and Fran Roehm. 1. Welcome & Introductions Sam called the meeting to order. At meeting start, there was not a quorum. 2. Discussion Programming  Science Fair Jimmy will reach out to D219 for teacher nominations for the award. In lieu of being present at the event, the group will review the student’s papers and select a winner.  ComEd Utility Program Scott explained that he still has an email chain with contacts from ComEd and that he will reach out to them.  CUB Event Alex explained that a representative from CUB reached out to the Village in hopes of partnering on their Grow Solar Chicagoland event which will provide education on the benefits of solar. Alex explained that this could be an opportunity for the commission to partner with the Sustainable Environmental Advisory Commission (SEAC) and will forward the email he received from CUB to Sam.  Cyber Security Program Sam tabled discussion of this program until next meeting.  Drone Technology Sam informed the group that Fran has reached out to Peter Gore and is awaiting a reply. 3. INTERNAL PROGRAMS  Web Page Cleanup Sam and Alex will discuss updating the STAT Commission webpage as well as adding minutes and agendas. 4. TABLED DISCUSSIONS  Discussions from previous meeting remained tabled. 5. NEW BUSINESS  Scott explained that during the pandemic he switched jobs and now has more contacts in the technology field. 6. TED TALK ***THIS DISCUSSION IS TABLED UNTIL WE HAVE STAT STABILIZED**** Rules at TED website. (Ninos/Scott/Christopher/Sam/Nick). We have gotten the chance to gather as a sub-commission. The sub-commission is compromised of Scott, Christopher, Sam, and Ninos. We are ramping up now that the holidays have passed NICK AND ANDREA HAVE HAD A CONVERSATION AND THE FEASIBILITY INCREASED 7. Discussion Programming  Science Fair Sam explained that Jimmy did some judging on behalf of Niles North and that the Commission will participate again at next year’s Science Fair.  ComEd Utility Program The group will begin discussions when program lead, Scott Shamberg, is in attendance.  CUB Event Sam said that he will reach out to CUB to begin discussions. Avi informed the group that SEC is offering 30% off of internet and discount laptops for qualifying families. He and Christopher W. will work together to create an article for Village media.  Cyber Security Program Avi explained that he has a presentation prepared and that it would also pair well with presentations on home health technology.  Drone Technology Sam suggested that the Commission transition this topic to solar technology. Fran said she will reach out to Peter Gore. 3. INTERNAL PROGRAMS  Media Campaign Avi suggested a “STATus Updates” media campaign for the Village website, Enews, etc.  Fourth of July Fran and Sam will discuss the possibility of STAT being in attendance at the 4th of July Parade.  Web Page Cleanup Sam and Alex will discuss updating the STAT Commission webpage as well as adding minutes and agendas.  Standardized Brochures Sam will work with the Commission to standardize program brochures and make all internal documents available to the group (cloud-based storage).  Surveys Sam and Alex will work together to remake the survey. Christopher W. explained that there is a free initiative for government organizations to switch their website to a .gov. Alex will explore this possibility. 4. TABLED DISCUSSIONS  Program on Automation Sam postponed discussions on this program until a later meeting.  Home Medical Technology Sam postponed discussions on this program until a later meeting.  AARP Tablet Training Sam postponed discussions on this program until a later meeting.  Fun Run App Syed explained that the Niles Township Food Pantry is hosting a “Fun Run” at Old Orchard Junior High on May 14 and is looking for volunteers. Sam revisited the idea of hosting the Professional App challenge event in Skokie and will table the idea until the summer. 5.
