Skokie Telecommunications and Technology (STAT) Commission Meeting Minutes Date: Tuesday, January 30, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. Location: Skokie Village Hall Conference Room A Attendees: Scott Shamberg, Sam Corcione, Richard Owen, Alex Franz, Christopher Oh, Baccet Levy, Vincent Giovannone, Syed Mahmood, Ken Grossman and Avi Nutkis. Absent: Jimmy Gonzalez. 1. Welcome & Introductions Scott called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Motion by Ken Grossman. Seconded by Avi Nutkis. All approved. 2. Approve minutes from Tuesday, November 28, 2023 A motion was made by Baccet Levy and was seconded by Syed Mahmood. All approved. 3. Discussion Higher Priority Programming  Cyber Security Program – Tier 1 Avi reported that the event will be in May of 2024. He will update his presentation and work with PD to secure a date.  Program on AI & ChatGPT – Tier 1 Alex explained that the event will be on Thursday, March 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. Alex will create an online form for attendees to register and submit questions to the panel. Avi & Baccet also have a list of questions prepared.  Survey Residents & Businesses on Technology Questions – Tier 1 Alex will bring the survey results to the next meeting.  Technological Excellence Award – Tier 1 Alex explained that as of the meeting, no award submissions have been received. Alex will share the award with the Chamber of Commerce, ISTP, schools and business community.  STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech – Tier 1 Alex explained that the videos will be developed in the spring.  Home Medical Technology – Tier 1 Sam explained that the he will meet with the team in early 2024.  Science Fair – Tier 1 Sam explained that the Science Fair will be on March 2 at Stevenson Highschool. Sam noted that at previous fairs, the Mayor would congratulate the winner during the award presentation. The group agreed that Jimmy should reach out to the Fair organizers and see if a member of the STAT Commission can present the award. Sam, Rich, and tentatively Baccet, said they also would attend.  Technology Glossary – Tier 1 The group agreed that this item would be moved from Tier 2 to Tier 1 now that the survey data has been received. Syed agreed to assist in the development of the glossary. 4. Discussion Lower Priority Programming  Program About Navigation Aggressive Sales Tactics – Tier 2 There was nothing new to report.  Technology for Skokie Residents & Businesses: o Tech for Families Communicating with International Families – Tier 2 The group agreed that this item will be removed from future agendas.  Drone Photography – Tier 2 Alex will speak with the staff liaison of the Fine Arts Commission to see if they are interested in working together on this.  Spring Greening Alex spoke with the Park District and explained that the event will be on April 14 from 10 am – 1:45 pm. The group agreed that the morning time slot, which is from 9 am -12 pm, works best. Alex will contact the Park District to see if members can come and go throughout the event. 5. New Business Sam discussed having the annual CUB Saver event. Sam will reach out to CUB for possible dates and more details. 6. Next Meeting The next meeting will be on February 27, 2024. 7. Discussion Higher Priority Programming  Cyber Security Program: Avi/Baccet Suggested Dates: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of the week of March 11th at 7 p.m. This worked for David Chan, waiting on Roman Eng.  A Program on AI and ChatGPT: Avi/Baccet Event will be at the library in March. Alex will work with them on a date and the logistics.  Survey Residents & Businesses on Technology Questions: Scott/Alex (all) Printed version of the survey to be available in the Health and Human Services waiting room for residents to complete while they wait for their appointment.  Technological Excellence Award: Jimmy/Syed Check for any submissions.  STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech: Avi/Chris Awaiting developing the videos in the spring.  Home Medical Technology: Syed/Baccet/Sam Sam to meet with the team in early 2024. 5. Discussion Lower Priority Programming  A program about navigating Aggressive sales tactics: Chris/Avi Christopher initiated a discussion on the aggressive sales tactics of phone providers and how the Commission can help educate residents on these tactics and how to best navigate them.  Tech for Families Communicating with International Families: Scott/Sam  Technology Glossary: Avi Lead/All Commissioners Creating a glossary of technology and posting it to the STAT webpage.  A collaboration on a drone photography event: Jimmy/TBD Potentially a drone photo contest, with the Fine Arts Commission  Spring Greening event TBD/TBD 6.
