Skokie Telecommunications and Technology (STAT) Commission Meeting Minutes Date: May 28, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. Location: Skokie Village Hall Conference Room A Attendees: Scott Shamberg, Alex Franz, Ken Grossman, Vincent Giovannone, Richard Owen, Christopher Oh, Avi Nutkis and Jimmy Gonzalez. Absent: Syed Mahmood and Sam Corcione. 1. Welcome & Introductions Scott called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Motion by Ken Grossman. Seconded by Jimmy Gonzalez. All approved. 2. Approve minutes from Tuesday, February 27, 2024 & Tuesday, March 26, 2024 February: Motion by Jimmy Gonzalez. Seconded by Avi Nutkis. March: Motion by Avi Nutkis. Seconded by Jimmy Gonzalez. 3. Discussion Higher Priority Programming  Spring Greening Event – Tier 1 Scott explained how successful the event was and commented on the volume of electronics that were recycled.  Cyber Security Event – Tier 1 Avi explained that he is looking at October for the event as it corresponds with cybersecurity week. Rich said that he will help and suggested that the Commission publishes monthly cybersecurity blurbs in the Scoop. Avi said that he will share information from his PowerPoint to Alex.  STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech – Tier 1 Alex said that the videos will be filmed in June, weather dependent.  Home Medical Technology – Tier 1 This was tabled. Rich said that he would help and Alex will contact Sam and request that he share anything he has on the event.  Science Fair – Tier 1 Jimmy recapped his presentation to the Village Board and explained that the award winners accomplished a lot of firsts in the awards history as the students were the first duo and eighth graders to receive the award.  Technology Glossary – Tier 1 Avi has begun creating the glossary and will share with Alex. He also will enter it into a Google Document so that all commissioners can contribute.  Smart Home Technology – Tier 1 Jimmy suggested combining the event with the home medical technology event. Scott suggested it remain separate or be a small portion of the smart home event. Chris volunteered to lead the event and Avi volunteered to be secondary lead. The group discussed having the cybersecurity, home medical and Smart-Tech events be a three-month series. Alex reminded the group that this event should not be a “sales” event and must be educationally focused. 4. Discussion Lower Priority Programming  Program About Navigation Aggressive Sales Tactics – Tier 2 Chris explained that CUB will be updating their sales information sheet some time in 2024. Scott suggested including “how to cancel a service.” Avi mentioned “Dark Habits” and how companies will trick people into thinking they cancelled. Rich suggested that this could also be an informational sheet or blurb for the Scoop.  Drone Photography – Tier 2 Jimmy will contact the Fine Arts Chair and Vincent will be secondary lead.  CUB Saver Event – Tier 2 Alex explained that Village Hall is undergoing an HVAC project and that the group may need to look at different locations. 5. New Business  Avi suggested adding the AI Program to lower level programming so that it does not get forgotten.  Rich suggested having a table at the Farmers’ Market that could rotate amongst commissioners and Village staff. Rich and Jimmy will work together. Avi suggested that this could also be a flier or poster.  Avi suggested a program on AI for businesses.  Scott suggested a program on new technology in cars. Jimmy volunteered to lead this program. 6. Next Meeting The next meeting will be on June 25, 2024. 7. Adjourn Motion by Avi Nutkis. Seconded by Ken Grossman.

Discussion Lower Priority Programming  A program about navigating Aggressive sales tactics: Chris/Avi Christopher initiated a discussion on the aggressive sales tactics of phone providers and how the Commission can help educate residents on these tactics and how to best navigate them.  CUB Saver Event: Sam/TBD CUB is interested in a summer event date. The group will target August for the event and Alex will contact CUB to coordinate.  A collaboration on a drone photography event: Jimmy/TBD Potentially a drone photo contest, with the Fine Arts Commission  Technological Excellence Award: Jimmy/Syed 6.
