Skokie Telecommunications and Technology (STAT) Commission Meeting Minutes Date: April 29, 2025 Time: 7 p.m. Location: Skokie Village Hall Conference Room A Attendees: Scott Shamberg, Alex Franz, Ken Grossman, Christopher Oh, David Coyne, Michael Lamprecht, Michael Calder, Ujjval Patel, Jimmy Gonzalez, and Syed Mahmood. Absent: Richard Owen and Avi Nutkis. 1. Call to Order Scott called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Motion by Ken Grossman. Seconded by Ujjval Patel. All approved. 2. Welcome and Introductions 3. Approve minutes from February 25, 2025. Motion by Ujjval Patel. Seconded by David Coyne. 4. Discussion Higher Priority Programming  Science Fair – Tier 1 The judges recapped their experience at the Science Fair and detailed the winners and their projects. Alex explained that he has heard from two of the three winners. The group is targeting the June 2 Village Board meeting for the award presentation.  Smart Home Technology – Tier 1 The group agreed on targeting a fall date for the event.  Spring Greening – Move to Tier 2 The group recapped the event and emphasized its success. Members expressed their excitement for next year.  Cybersecurity – Tier 1 Scott explained that Avi was no longer available for the May 1 date and that the event will be pushed back to a later date. The group will target a mid-late summer date or possibly wait until October when the event is regularly scheduled.  General AI Program – Tier 1 The group is targeting an early June date for the event. Alex will send the Library’s meeting room availability and the group will share with Alex the press release.  Technology Glossary – Tier 1 Alex will begin to publish the existing tech items to the webpage. The group is encouraged to continue to enter glossary items.  Program on new technology in cars – Tier 1 The group is targeting a mid-late July event date at the Library. Alex will find dates that work best and share.  Home Medical Technology – Tier 1 Alex will resend the list of local medical providers to the group. Targeting an August date.  Program About Navigation Aggressive Sales Tactics – Tier 1 The group has reformatted the one-pager to describe what Skokie is currently doing and bullet points on what to look out for. Members suggested that multiple one-pagers be created that would cover various topics. Michael and Chris will share their draft will Alex and Scott.  Business AI Program – Tier 1 Progress is being made on the event which will focus on common use cases of business AI. The group is targeting a September date at the Library. As the event draws closer, Alex will reach out to the Chamber of Commerce to see if they might include it in their newsletter. 5. Discussion Lower Priority Programming  STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech Alex will begin filming how the Village uses drones.  Drone Photography Jimmy has made progress on the event and will reach out to the Fine Arts Commission. Alex suggested that rules for drone operation and privacy be included.  A table at the Farmers’ Market that could rotate amongst commissioners and Village Staff Jimmy will send Alex and Scott applicable information for review before reaching out to Market Manager.  Consumer as the Product Michael C. created a draft PowerPoint. The group is targeting a November date.  Social Media Literacy A powerpoint will be shared amongst the team. The group will determine if this should be an event or a one-pager. 6. New Business The group discussed having a “STAT Expo” where multiple event topics are discussed at once and participants can choose which topic(s) they would like to learn about. The group discussed combining the social media literacy topic/event with the consumer as a product topic/event. 7. Next Meeting Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 7 p.m. 8. Adjourn Motion by Ujjval Patel. Review possible speaker and demo ideas from Avi. Explore potential collaboration with Oakton Community College.  Spring Greening Confirm participation in April 6 event from 10 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. Confirm volunteers: Michael L, Michael C, Scott S., Chris O., Ujjval P., and Avi N.  Cyber Security: Avi/TBD May 1: AI Fraud  General AI Program: David/Avi/Ujjval Review finalized 45-minute presentation. Confirm targeted May event date.  Technology Glossary: Avi/Syed Get an update on who has submitted  Program on new technology in cars: David/Jimmy/Ujjval Continue planning for July/August event.  Home Medical Technology: Syed/Rich/Chris Discuss framework and identify potential event partners. Review contacts from Alex for potential partners.  A program about navigating Aggressive sales tactics: Chris/Michael Review draft of one-pager from Michael L. Prepare for next steps.  Business AI Program: David/Ujjval Update on progress in developing event content. 5. Discussion Lower Priority Programming  STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech: Avi/Chris Alex to provide update  A table at the Farmers’ Market that could rotate amongst commissioners and Village staff: Rich/Jimmy Select date and prepare materials, including QR codes.  A collaboration on a drone photography event: Jimmy/Ken Jimmy to provide update  Consumer as the product: Rich/Michael C./Ujjval Review draft PowerPoint created by Michael C.  Social Media Literacy: Ujjval/Michael C./Avi Review program outline focusing on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok scams. 6.
