Those wishing to participate during Public Comment may do so in person at the South

and should be limited to no more than 250 words. Written public comments will be
provided to the Community Services Commission and will be part of the record but will
not be read aloud.

to notify the public of any changes to the agenda, remove items from the consent
calendar for individual consideration and/or rearrange the order of the agenda.
5. PUBLIC COMMENT
Speakers may provide public comments on any matter within the subject matter
jurisdiction of the Advancement of Women and Girls Commission, including items
on the agenda. Each speaker will be limited to five minutes. Unless a majority of
the Commission objects, the Chair may provide speakers more or less time to
speak. All comments or queries shall be addressed to the Commission as a body
and not to any specific member thereof. Pursuant to Government Code Section
54954.2(a)(2), the Ralph M. Brown Act, no action or discussion by the
Advancement of Women and Girls Commission shall be undertaken on any item
not appearing on the posted agenda, except to briefly provide information, ask for
clarification, provide direction to staff, or schedule a matter for a future meeting.
6. CONSENT CALENDAR
Items on the consent calendar are considered to be routine and customary and
are enacted by a single motion with the exception of items previously pulled by a
member of the Advancement of Women and Girls Commission during "Approval
of the Agenda" for individual consideration. Any items pulled shall be individually
considered immediately after taking action on the Consent Calendar.

The Advancement of Women and Girls Commission will continue the
discussion regarding the City Council approved gala event, scheduled for
Friday, September 25, 2026, and provide direction to staff.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff recommends the Commission continue

for Friday, September 25, 2026.

AB 1234, section 53232.3(d) requires Members of a legislative body to provide

Chair Gaeta-Anguiano introduced the item, and the Commission provided input
and discussed various ideas and implementation strategies they would like to
see incorporated into the Women and Girls Evening of Empowerment event.

1. Consideration to implement a Maya Meditation Session taught by
Itzapalotl Patino for the Women and Girls Mental Health Class in May.

De La Cruz presented the proposed agenda item to implement a Maya
Meditation and Sound Bath Workshop on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Item was received and approved.
2. Review and consideration of DJ and Photo Booth bids for the Women
and Girls Evening of Empowerment Event.
On behalf of absent Commissioner Gutierrez, Executive Director Ariana
De La Cruz presented the proposed agenda item regarding DJ and
photo booth bids for the Women and Girls Evening of Empowerment
event.
Item was received and approved.

MEETING — WOMEN AND GIRLS EVENING OF
EMPOWERMENT EVENT
SUMMARY: The Advancement of Women and Girls Commission will continue the
discussion regarding the City Council approved gala event, scheduled for Friday,
September 25, 2026, and provide direction to staff.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff recommends the Commission continue the discussion
regarding the City Council approved gala event, scheduled for Friday, September 25,
2026.
FISCAL/FINANCIAL IMPACT:
DISCUSSION: At the October 15, 2025, Regular Advancement of Women and Girls
Commission meeting, commissioners deliberated from the past Women and Girls
Empowerment Conference and recommended to staff to propose a Gala in lieu of the
conference.
Subsequently, staff presented the commissioner's recommendation to host a Gala at the
December 2, 2025, City Council meeting and obtained approval to host this event on
Friday, September 25, 2026, at the South El Monte Community Center.
Lastly, at the March 19, 2026, Special Advancement of Women and Girls Commission
meeting commissioner deliberated and provided preliminary ideas for the proposed gala
event. Staff is requesting to finalize details and provide staff with direction to proceed.
