4 RES 15-724 Supporting state legislation for earned sick and safe time benefits.
Council President Stark noted that the resolution was sponsored by all seven Council
members, which didn't happen often, and he thanked everyone for their support. He
said the resolution expressed support for a bill being considered in both houses of
the state legislature which would require employers to provide some earned sick and
safe time. He moved approval.

Paul.
Councilmember Tolbert invited Barbara Barnes to the podium and read the
resolution. Ms. Barnes made brief comments. Councilmember Tolbert moved
approval of the resolution.

presented the awards. Recipients made brief comments, and Mayor Coleman made
concluding remarks.

RES 15-757 Opposing the extension of poor trade policies.
Councilmember Tolbert said it wasn't often that the Council took a stance on federal
legislation, but he felt this bill was important for the Council to talk about and was on
a fast track through Congress in the Senate. He said this issue could potentially
affect St. Paul in the loss of manufacturing jobs. He thanked labor leaders for
bringing this possibly detrimental bill to the Council's attention. Councilmember
Brendmoen made a friendly amendment to ask that a copy of the resolution be sent
to the congressional delegation.
Councilmember Tolbert moved approval of the resolution as amended.
