Adopted 12 RES 15-685 Authorizing acceptance of a donation from Rebuilding Together Twin Cities for improvements at Weida Park. Adopted 14 RES 15-697 Approving adverse action against the Taxicab Driver license held by Jason L. Schlais. Adopted FOR DISCUSSION 4 RES 15-724 Supporting state legislation for earned sick and safe time benefits. Council President Stark noted that the resolution was sponsored by all seven Council members, which didn't happen often, and he thanked everyone for their support. He said the resolution expressed support for a bill being considered in both houses of the state legislature which would require employers to provide some earned sick and safe time. He moved approval. Councilmember Tolbert invited Barbara Barnes to the podium and read the resolution. Ms. Barnes made brief comments. Councilmember Tolbert moved approval of the resolution. Adopted Yea: 7- Councilmember Bostrom, Councilmember Brendmoen, Councilmember Thao, Councilmember Thune, Councilmember Tolbert, Councilmember Finney and City Council President Stark Nay: 0 15 RES 15-719 Honoring the recipients of the 2015 Sustainable Saint Paul Awards. Council President Stark introduced the awards and acknowledged the committee members. He introduced Mayor Coleman. Mayor Coleman and Council members presented the awards. Recipients made brief comments, and Mayor Coleman made concluding remarks. Laid over to May 6 for third reading/public hearing SUSPENSION ITEM Councilmember Tolbert moved suspension of the rules. Rules suspended Yea: 7- Councilmember Bostrom, Councilmember Brendmoen, Councilmember Thao, Councilmember Thune, Councilmember Tolbert, Councilmember Finney and City Council President Stark Nay: 0 RES 15-757 Opposing the extension of poor trade policies. Councilmember Tolbert said it wasn't often that the Council took a stance on federal legislation, but he felt this bill was important for the Council to talk about and was on a fast track through Congress in the Senate. He said this issue could potentially affect St. Paul in the loss of manufacturing jobs. He thanked labor leaders for bringing this possibly detrimental bill to the Council's attention. Councilmember Brendmoen made a friendly amendment to ask that a copy of the resolution be sent to the congressional delegation. Councilmember Tolbert moved approval of the resolution as amended.
