Ordinance No. O-26-18 - An Ordinance Amending Ordinance 2-8.5 Regarding the Qualifications to Become a Police Officer in the Borough of West Long Branch Introduction OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY PERSON TO BE HEARD: ADJOURNMENT:  ORDINANCE NO. O-26-18 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 2-8.5 REGARDING THE QUALIFICATIONS TO BECOME A POLICE OFFICER IN THE BOROUGH OF WEST LONG BRANCH WHEREAS, the Police Committee of the Borough Council, together with the Chief of Police, have given consideration to a change the educational requirements currently set forth in Ordinance 2-8.5(d) and have recommended that it be modified to require a minimum of 60 college credits, but permit that requirement to be met within the first 3 years following the date of hire of the police officer, rather than prior to the officer being hired; and WHEREAS, the governing body concurs with the recommendation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Borough Council of the Borough of West Long Branch as follows: SECTION 1. Ordinance 2-8.5(d) is amended to read: “Possess an associate degree, college degree, or possess or obtain within 3 years of the date of hire a minimum of 60 college credits.” SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage and publication according to law.
