Meeting Minutes
1. Call To Order
Kim Lombardozzi called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm.
2. Roll Call
In attendance: Glenn Gabryel, Mary Gabryel, Kate Johnson (arrived 6:12), Kim
Lombardozzi, Mary McAuliffe, Brittany Smith, and Tyler Tieche.
Absent: Erin Kennedy and Bob Van Hyfte
Staff in attendance: Jon Yeater (Liaison).

4. Consent Agenda
Kim Lombardozzi addressed the commission on this agenda item:
a. May 1, 2017 regular meeting minutes
b. May 8, 2017 special meeting minutes
Motion was made by Glenn Gabryel to approve the consent agenda. The motion
was second by Brittany Smith unanimously approved by voice vote (excluding
Kate Johnson not in attendance at the time of the vote)
5. Reports
a. Climate Action Plan (CAP)
-.Next meeting June 8th meeting
- See May 8 meeting minutes for overview of status
- EIC commissioners reviewed a portion of the CAP at meeting and provided
comments to Tyler Tieche for consideration in the next draft of the document.

b. Earth Month Guest Speakers
Update for May Speakers
-5/3 Where have the monarchs gone? 25 attendees
-5/18 Solving your yard problems 28 attendees
Next Speaker sponsored by the Friends of the Library
-6/19 What’s the Buzz
Jon Yeater is the holder the seed packets for handouts at future presentations
c. Richmond Education Gardens and Apiary Project and Fundraisers
- No updates of fundraising projects at this time
- The first hive the bees have left however the other 3 hives are still active
d. Recycling – Red, White and Blue BBQ May 26-28
- Bob Van Hyfte coordinated with program. Made a valiant effort but was not able to
pull this off due to several roadblocks.
e. Westmont Drain Stenciling and DuPage River Sweep
- Drain Stenciling
Only a small area in Westmont was stenciled due to low attendance. May promote
again in the fall.
- DuPage River Sweep
Event was moved to June 3 due to a rain delay. Approximately 15 volunteers
participated at this event including a girl scout troop.
f.. Rain Barrel Decorating Contest
- Kate Johnson made contact with Larry Forssberg and will be scheduling a meeting to
work on the implementation for 2018.
g. Conservation Foundation Tree and Shrub Sale – October 14th 8am-noon
-Location for event 39 East Burlington, the Westmont Water Department
-In July/August list of trees and plants should be available
-Conservation Foundations will be coordinating orders and payment.
-Will need volunteers the day before and the day of event

h. Pumpkin Composting Event
- Mary Gabryel will contact the Farm and Richmond Education Garden Committee
about scheduling this event.
i. 2017/18 Budget
- The budget is $4,250. See exhibit for details
6. Old Business
a. Conservation in Our Community Program – The Conservation Foundation
- No update at this time
b. Chamber of Commerce Banner
Jon will request a sample from Larry Forssberg
c. VOW Monarch Resolution Subcommittee
- Steve May, Village Manger, requested a committee be formed to identify potential
sites.
- The village was contacted about a beautification project along Ogden and Cass. Jon
Yeater will coordinate.
d. Future Guest Speaker
- Jon Yeater is working to get ComEd to make a presentation on energy savings.
e. EIC Succession Planning
No update at this time

g. SCARCE Earth Flag program for Village Recycling Contest
ACTION ITEM - Kim Lombardozzi will send information about the program
7. New Business
a. Budget Expenditures
i. Chamber of Commerce Banner
Motion:
The EIC recommends an expenditure not to exceed $100 to purchase a
Chamber of Commerce Banner.
The above motion was made by Mary Gabryel and second by Mary
McAuliffe and unanimously approved by voice vote.

ii. The Conservation Foundation Conservation in Our Community Program
Motion:
The EIC recommends a $1,000 payment to The Conservation Foundation to
support the Conservation in Our Community program for the Village of
Westmont.
The above motion was made by Mary Gabryel and second by Glenn
Gabryel and unanimously approved by voice vote.
iii. Scarce
Motion:
The EIC recommends a $500 payment to Scarce to support education and
promotion of the Westmont programs.
The above motion was made by Mary Gabryel and second by Kate Johnson
and unanimously approved by voice vote.
8. Misc. / Action Plan
a. Mayors For 100% Clean Energy thru the Sierra Club
Jon Yeater to provide information for the EIC to consider a recommendation to the
mayor to pledge support for a community-wide transition to 100% renewable energy.
b. Glenn Gabryel made a report on the new trash can replacement starting June 12.
-Commissioners voiced concern that providing residents with a larger trash can does not
encourage increased recycling.
9. Adjourn
Motion to adjourn was made by Mary McAuliffe and second by Tyler Tieche
and unanimously approved by voice vote. Meeting adjourned at 7:36 pm.

MISSION:
The Environmental Improvement Commission will be responsible for developing programs to improve the
relationship between village residents and businesses AND their local environment.
These programs will be enacted on a local level with the intent
of the Village to do its part to improve the global ecology.
