PUBLIC NOTICE Westmont 100th Anniversary Committee Meeting Electronic Attendance Only Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. MINUTES 1. Call To Order​ - Meeting was called to order at 3:34pm by Larry McIntyre 2. Roll Call​ - Co-Chair/Mayor Ron Gunter, Co-Chair/Director of Communications Larry McIntyre, Village Manager Steve May, Amy Quattrone, Larry Forssberg, Robert Fleck, Sandy Henrickson, Trustee Frank Brady, Glen Liljeberg, Fire Chief Steve Riley, Will Sperling, Director of Public Works Mike Ramsey, Dustin Kleefisch, Patti Mielcarski; ABSENT: Alice Krampits, Julia Coen 3. Pledge of Allegiance​ - NA 4. Public Comment ​- None. 5. Approval of Minutes​ - Motion by Will, second by Amy, approved by voicevote 6. Anniversary Committee Updates a. 100th Anniversary Logo - Flags i. Public Works has ordered flags for the Village. Once they are in they will be distributed to everyone who made a request. b. 100th Anniversary Logo - Car and Facility Decals i. DPW Ramsey described progress on placing decals on vehicles and facilities. Moving ahead slowly due to weather. Hope to have all decals places by mid-February. c. 100th Anniversary Best Pet Contest i. McIntyre reported that the Best Pet contest has been launched and will continue through the end of February. More than 20 entries have been submitted thus far. d. 100th Anniversary Trivia Challenge i. McIntyre reported that 10 teams submitted their answer sheets. Announcements regarding results may be ready by tomorrow. e. Mayor’s Centennial Legacy Awards i. McIntyre reported that the legacy families had been discussed and reviewed at the last meeting. ii. McIntyre mentioned that we are now following up on creating a Legacy Businesses Award. iii. Forssberg talked about the criteria for the Legacy business recognition. iv. It was suggested that we create an online form for the public to submit info regarding potential legacy businesses f. 100th Anniversary License Plates i. McIntyre reported that the application is in-hand and we plan to submit to administrator soon ii. We need to create criteria for who will get the license plates and need to document info for those who get them iii. Will Sperling spoke about running a specialty plate project in the past g. Historical Book i. Book was heavily promoted throughout the community and was a recent feature story in the Suburban Life ii. Kleefisch reported that 84 books have sold thus far h. Fire Department Event i. McIntyre and Riley talked about the continuing development of an event connected to the Fire Department’s history when rival factions of the fire department were hiding the fire truck on each other (maybe this was in the 20’s or 30’s); this event would be held around the time of the annual Fire Prevention Week activities in early October. i. Memorial Day Event - Dedication of Robinson Bronze Eagle i. Fleck confirmed that this dedication is being scheduled for a Memorial Day Ceremony. ii. Fleck stated that work on the new memorial which will be at Veterans Memorial Park is expected to being April 1 iii. American Legion will take the lead on coordinating the event - possibly a modified parade, iv. Bronze Eagle is already in the Park District’s possession j. Anniversary Ale i. Will be highlighted on the cover of Neighbors Magazine this issue ii. Naming contest went well iii. Bottling has been completed iv. The beer will be on tap at Whiskey Hill throughout the year k. Park District 100th Anniversary Brew Event i. The Park Dist. has sold 216 cases and is sold out as of this week ii. Feb 12 and 13 is the pick-up l. Park District Beanie Baby Update i. Fleck reported that Ty, Inc. has sent a photo of the Beanie Baby they are recommending we use for the 100th Anniversary ii. We will add a tag to the Beanie Baby that signifies the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary. m. 50th anniversary book i. McIntyre reported that he spoke to Alice about getting the PDF copy of the 100th Anniversary Book, which will then be posted on the Village Website n. CUSD201 Written History i. McIntyre stated that there was a meeting between the Mayor, Kevin Carey, Quattrone, Babyar and McIntyre to talk about creating a written history for CUSD201 as there is no known written history at this time. ii.Quattrone reported that she has possibly found a person who will be interested in working on this project - we will check in with Kevin Carey and move forward iii. The group agreed that committee budget can be used to fund the writing of this project with a stipend o. Time capsule i. Buried for the bicentennial and scheduled to be opened 100 years later ii. It was asked if we should open the capsule for the Village’s 100th, and maybe add to it iii. The group decided to create a second time capsule to be buried p. Commemorative Postmarks i. We will follow up with the Postmaster on this item q. Congressman Casten - Commemorative remarks in Congress i. Casten suggested that he could bring a famous Muddy Waters picture to Westmont from the National Archives, or get a copy of it ii. Casten offered to participate in events iii. Casten could also request official commemorative remarks from congress for the 100th anniversary r. Memorabilia - Polo Shirts, lapel pins, coins, patches i. Patti has purchased stickers in black/white & gold/white, coffee mugs, looking into possibly getting sweatshirts, lapel pins on order ii. 100th Anniversary Coins - Manager May talked about creating a set of challenge coins which will be related to several areas of the village - Police, Fire, Public Works, Village Hall, Community Coin iii. Anniversary Plates - maybe order 100 to give away - we need to pick what historical images should be included on the plate s. Lions Club Pow Wow Days Events i. Interested in trying to do a retro Pow Wow Days in late Sept. or early Oct. t. 4th of July i. Try to do a fireworks display for the 4th regardless of covid guidelines ii. State Fair is taking tickets for their events but will refund if it doesn’t happen u. Misc. 7. Anniversary Committee Budget​ - No report 8.
