Minutes Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee - Subcommittee of the Environmental Improvement Commission January 21, 2015, 7:00 pm In attendance: Nancy Allured, Dennis Beemer, Bruce Berenschot, Michelle Dunlap, Jim Knasel, Bill Nieman, Rita Nathanson, Carrie Provost, Karen Saad, and Laurel Salvador Approval of Minutes: Rita moved that the minutes be approved. Laurel seconded. Wheaton Destination Map: The committee’s comments are at the City still to be confirmed with the consultant. Wheaton Bike Plan Projects: Projects included in the City route signage plan will be completed this year (2015/2016). Additional recommendations from the Bike Advisory Committee will be included in striping and painting projects as implemented. Some will extend into future years based on priority of street projects. Bike Safety Video: Jim Knasel reported that the bike safety video is expected to be completed by early February. He will review it when ready and send a link to the Bike Committee members. A plan will be created to use it for City and School District purposes. National Bike Month: The Committee agreed to celebrate the National Bike Month in May. This is an annual event organized by the League of American Bicyclists since 1956. Included in the events planned for Wheaton will be; National Bike/Walk to School Day on May 6 (Jim); Bike Safety classes at Wheaton Park District on May 9 (Laurel); Bike to Work week May 11— 15; Library celebrate Bike Month (Bruce) Proclamation by the City for Bike Month in May (Jim). Bike Safety Classes May 9, 2015: Laurel reported that the Bicycle Safety classes will be in the Spring catalog - for the Wheaton Park District. Bike to School May 6, 2015: Jim Knasel will lead the effort to promote the National Bike/Walk to School day — in the School District 200. The committee’s goal is to increase the number of schools participating in 2015. Taste of Wheaton Bike Valet June 6-7: Dennis reported he met with the Wheaton Park District to plan the — bike valet for the 2015 Taste of Wheaton. The group agreed to extend the valet service on Saturday to the entire day from 6:30 am 8:00 pm. If possible the Park District would like the bike valet to continue on — Sunday. 4 t h 4 t h of July Parade —July 4: The committee discussed the possibility of adding the of July parade for an opportunity to promote biking in Wheaton and the upcoming Bike Wheaton Festival. The committee will be surveyed to find out availability of the members. Bike Wheaton Festival Aug 8, 2015: Rita, Nancy and Carrie will work with the Downtown Wheaton — Association on developing the Festival. A more detailed plan will be developed to include the business leaders and the City leaders and invite Wheaton families to participate. Next Bike Committee Meeting: March 18, 2015.
