Minutes - Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee Subcommittee of the Environmental Improvement Commission April 15, 2015, 7:00 pm In attendance: Nancy Allured, Bruce Berenschot, Michelle Dunlap, Jim Knasel, Carrie Provost, and Karen Saad; Guest - Paula Barrington, Downtown Wheaton Association (DWA) Approval of Minutes: Michelle moved that the minutes be approved. Jim seconded. Wheaton Bike Map – Paul Redman informed Nancy that although the map is completed it should not be used until all of the bike route signage is installed. He expected this to take months still. Bike Wheaton Festival – Aug 8, 2015: Paula Barrington of the DWA joined the meeting to discuss activities of the new Bike Wheaton Festival. She discussed marketing and PR, permits, and arrangements with the Park District. Carrie reported that there may be an interest from the DuPage Art League to participate in a childrens bike art activity. Jim will ask Dr. Schuler from the School District 200 to participate. The Committee will also invite the City Council members to join the event. Bike Safety Video: The City communications department has developed press releases to inform the press about the Bike Safety video. The City cable channel is running the video as well as posting it on the City’s website. May National Bike Month events: National Bike/Walk to School Day on May 6 – Jim reported that there are six Wheaton schools participating this year in the Bike to School day (Franklin, Edison, Whittier, Madison, Lincoln, and Emerson) as well as two in Warrenville (Johnson and Bower). That increases the Bike to School event from three schools to eight in 2015. Jim is working with Wheaton Warrenville District 200 and the Warrenville Bike Commission. Bike Safety classes with Wheaton Park District on May 9 – this year there are two classes. One for children under 12 years of age; the other for children over 12 years through adult. Library display Bike Month information – Bruce arranged for the Library to have a display for National Bike Month. Nancy will deliver bike maps including Bike to Metra/Wheaton, DuPage trail map, a flyer about Bike Month, a Bike Wheaton T-shirt and helmet for display purposes. Bike Wheaton Banners – The banners have been delivered to the City Public Works department for use during May Bike Month. Taste of Wheaton Bike Valet – June 6: The group has committed to work shifts for the entire day light hours 7:00 am – 7:30 pm. Michelle is collecting materials. Nancy suggested that some members of the Environmental Improvement Commission may be able to take a shift to fully staff the Saturday event. New Committee members: The committee members will continue to look for additional members. ----- Next Bike Committee Meeting: May 20, 2015. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm
