Minutes - Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee Subcommittee of the Environmental Improvement Commission March 15th, 2017, 7:00pm In Attendance:​ Dan Dlhy, Therese Kushman, Rita Nathanson, Nancy Allured, Carrie Prevost, Jim Knasel, Bill Nieman and John Savage (from Benet Academy sat in on meeting, accompanied by his mother, for 20 minutes as part of a project for Boy Scouts). Approval of minutes:​ Approved as amended by Nancy. Bill seconded. Chair report:​ Dan acknowledged chairing committee is ongoing learning process. Public Comment:​ John Savage & his mother expressed concern about crossing Naperville Road at Blanchard Road & East Loop Drive as dangerous as the timing of the street lights are not conducive for pedestrian traffic. Minutes: Ongoing Business: Bike to School: ​Therese contacted PTA Council President who will, in turn, contact all PTA presidents for schools to register their bike to school event. Bike to Work: ​May 19 is National bike to Work Day. Since this is day after History ride, committee has decided to postpone our involvement until future, as discussed in February meeting. Coffee With Council: ​Jim created Bike Implementation Strategy for attending Coffee With Council to have talking points to bring up at coffee with council. Suggestion is to talk with Mike Dzugan to find out where bike plan is now. Nancy suggested Paul Redmond, because he is supportive of the bike plan, could be invited 2X year to our meetings. Dan will email him to keep apprised of city’s plans and possibility for incorporating parts of the bike plan in city’s improvements. Grants for improvements will be sent to bid in April 2017. Wheaton Historic Ride: ​May 20 2-4pm. Carrie sent map and history ride itinerary and mileage to all committee members. Carrie will get names of committee members who volunteer to ride with the group. Rita will contact WBEZ to announce History Ride on air. Waiver will be available to download, sign and bring with to event. Bike Plan Map: ​Nancy received quote from Alphagraphics for 200 maps, 2 sided. She will have the maps printed one sided with bike Advisory Committee name, email, and logo. Cost will be $151.00 for 200 maps size 11” X 17”. Bike Festival 2017: ​Rita, Dan, Therese, Nancy will meet Tuesday, March 21 at 5:30 pm in meeting room E at Wheaton library. Therese will introduce Grove Dental’s interest in sponsoring the Bike Festival and donating string bags to participants. Warrenville/Wheaton BPAC Conversation: ​Meeting at Cantigny Golf Course on April 5 at 9 am (In golf course clubhouse, off mack Road) to discuss improving biking in & around Cantigny Park. Dan and Rita will attend along with members from the Warrenville Bike & Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Winfield Bicycle Advisory Committee. Cosley Zoo Party for the Planet: ​April 22 10:30am - 2pm. Committee voted to table our participation until next year.
