Public Comment: None Chair Report: None Ongoing Business: Bike Festival 2017: Paula Barrington from the Downtown Wheaton Association attended the meeting to discuss the 2017 Bike Festival. Giveaways for the Bike Festival this year will be the Honka Hooters (just have a few leftover from last year), Spoke Beads and Bandana’s. We were able to preview a sample of the bandana’s and discussed the colors. The committee was unanimous with the colors they selected, which were fluorescent green with our blue logo. Organizations committed to being at the Bike Festival are: Naperville Running Co., Illinois Prairie Path Association, Next Yoga, River City Roasters, Trinity Episcopal Church, Daley Method. The Wheaton Police Dept will be running the bike rodeo. Interested in participating: Grove Dental, DuPage Sheriff's Office, Elmhurst Bike Club, Colin Tillotson the Bike Surgeon. The promotional material (postcards and signs) will be ready by the end of June. We will look to place the materials in the same locations as last year, distribute about half of the signs in the downtown area and the others will be along the Prairie Path and at busy intersections. Should receive all promotional materials at the July meeting. We will reach out to the city of Wheaton for help promoting the event. Nancy Allured will reach out to Arin Thrower, the Public Information Officer for assistance. Also discussed was the parade route and the committee decided that we would prefer to travel the route twice if possible, looking into getting that approved. Trying to have the merchants from downtown Wheaton decorate a bicycle and bring it to the event for judging. Bike Valet: For the 2017 Bike Valet at the Taste of Wheaton, we had approximately 110 patrons that utilized the service on Saturday. Patrons used the bike valet between the hours of 6am and 7pm and had people come from other cities such as Elmhurst and Carol Stream. Also opened the discussion about the sponsorship of our table and Michelle Dunlap was going to reach out to her contact at the Wheaton Park District to discuss further. Also discussed for the Bike Valet was that our banner/flag was broken and we will look into getting that fixed. Wheaton History Ride: Discussed rescheduling the ride and came up with a tentative date of September 23rd for an afternoon ride (2pm - 4pm). Will reach out to the Wheaton Historical Preservation Committee to see if they are interested in participating in the ride as well as having a table at the Bike Festival. 2017 Group Rides: Reporting that our first non-committee member joined us for a group ride in June, Kate Perkins from the Warrenville Bicycle Committee. Discussed getting the waivers turned in so that we can submit them to the city for their records. Had committee members sign the waivers so that they will be on file. Dan Dlhy collected the waivers and will turn them into the city of Wheaton. Bike Committee Thoughts & Ideas: None discussed New Business: None discussed Other topics from Committee Members: Laurel Salvador wanted to discuss a safety issue with the trail in Atten Park and proposed to have the city trim some bushes for better sightlines as well as put some striping down on the path to direct bike / pedestrian traffic. The committee agreed that it was a great idea and Laurel will reach out to her contact with the Park District. Upcoming Committee Meetings: July 19th & August 16th Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:20pm Respectfully Submitted: Rita Nathanson
