Ongoing Business:
Wheaton History Ride (recap) - the ride was a success from the number of people who attended (32) and the feedback
that we have received verbally by a few of the riders, even though it was an extremely hot day (over 90 degrees).
Michelle Dunlap has emailed the information that she received from the Historic Commission out to our group and it
was discussed to put that information online so that Wheaton residents can do the ride at their leisure. Nancy Flannery
of the Historic Commission is committed to doing the ride again next year and suggested that there are other places that
we can go to to vary the ride from year to year. Ideas for next years History ride included adding a sign-up sheet in order
to get riders information (email address) to promote our other events; a form to get some honest feedback from the
riders on what they liked & disliked about the ride; and how to keep everyone together until the ride is officially over
(riders went their own way after the last stop).
Bike / Walk to School - Fall (recap) - reminders were sent out to the school district for the fall event.
Final Group Ride Reminder - reminded the committee of the final group ride of the year on October 21st, 2017.
Upcoming Meeting Schedules - with the meetings running into the holidays, we discussed whether to hold the
upcoming meetings or not and we opted to cancel the December meeting and hold the November meeting but try and
get Councilman Barbier to the November meeting and hold it a week earlier than normal.
Bike Committee Thoughts & Ideas of 2018 - discussed to talk / promote our events with Arin Thrower, the City Public
Information Officer; to put together a map / organizational chart of contacts within the city, county and bicycling
community; and to continue the idea of having a city councilman / councilwoman speak at our Bike Festival
New Business:
Active Transportation Meeting - Laurel Salvador reported that she attended the meeting, which was held to promote
bicycling within cities across the area. Laurel mentioned that so far Wheaton is right in line with the ideas of the ATA by
having a Committee designated to bicycling as well as having the Bike Plan in place. She mentioned having written
information that she will pass along the committee via email.
Founders Park Update - it was brought to our attention that Founders Park has been updated by the Illinois Prairie Path
organization. Suggested that the committee ride by to see what was added / updated in the park
