Minutes - Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee Subcommittee of the Environmental Improvement Commission Wednesday January 24th, 2018 Roll Call: Chair, Dan Dlhy, called the meeting to order at 7:05pm In Attendance: Nancy Allured, Rita Nathanson, Bill Nieman, Laurel Salvador, Carrie Provost, Therese Kushman, Michelle Dunlap. Approval of Minutes: Minutes from our last meeting (November) were not available. Not approved. Public Comment: None Chair Report: Chair, Dan Dlhy, apologized for re-scheduling the January meeting so late but was done because he was out of town on business the previous Wednesday. Reported that it’s possible that the Wheaton City Council could vote to be in favor of making our committee a full Commission. This was discussed by the city council at the last planning meeting and we are waiting to hear from the City Manager. The distribution of the Meeting Agendas & Minutes by the Chair has much room for improvement to be delivered in a more-timely manner prior to our next meeting. Encouraged committee members to provide feedback on ideas that they would like to have added to the agenda. Also suggested that all committee members should look to print out the agenda and minutes prior to coming to the meeting so lessen the burden on the chair from printing out so many copies on personal printer. Ongoing Business: History Ride – Started the discussion of our 2018 History Ride. Possible dates were discussed for the ride and it was determined that it would be best to hold the ride in the month of September. Also discussed were the possible stops during the History Ride – using some of the same stops that we did for the 2017 ride but also including some new stops to attract new riders. Bicycle Signage in Wheaton – Discussed the 750+ signs that were installed by the city workers around Wheaton but noticed that there are some that are incorrect – incorrectly pointing out a location. Discussed that committee members should go around and gather notes on incorrect signs so that we can report back to the city to have corrected. It was also discussed that we should reach out to the city to see if they are aware of this matter before we start to take notes. Discussion of Phase 2 of proposed downtown bicycle lanes – The committee hasn’t heard of the movement of the proposed bicycle lanes by Councilman Mike Barbier. Active Transportation Alliance (ATA) – The committee discussed the “Bike Walk West” mini grant offered by the ATA. The grant could be worth $250 - $500 for the mini grant but there is work in filling out an application, which I believe Laurel Salvador will be handling and submitting to us in the February meeting. New Business: Bike to School – This event was brought up to discuss the date of when it will be held. There was some confusion by the Chair, Dan Dlhy, who thought the event was in March, but it’s held in May. Other topics from Committee Members: Briefly discussed, were the following events: Bike Valet at the Taste of Wheaton, Proclamation, display in the Wheaton City Library and the Bike Festival. Upcoming Committee Meetings: Wednesday February 28th, 2018 Wednesday March 21st, 2018 Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:50pm Respectfully Submitted: Dan Dlhy, Chair
