Chair Report:
Although most of the group new, reported that we were escalated from a sub-committee of the
Environmental Improvement Commission to a full-standalone commission.
Reported to the group that when I checked the website address redirect on the city web site that it
wasn’t functioning properly and that I will reach out to the city to discuss.
Ongoing Business:
Taste of Wheaton (June 2nd) – Michelle Dunlap mentioned that she is still working with the Wheaton
Park District on attending the event and to see about the sponsorship.
Bike / Walk to School – Therese Kushman reported that she attended the PTA Council meeting and
presented and promoted the event. She also created flyers to help promote the event. The commission
discussed receiving the proclamation from the city for the event and it was voted that we would attend
the April 16th City Council meeting to accept the proclamation from Mayor Gresk.
Discussion of Phase 2 of proposed downtown bike lanes – Therese Kushman reported that she will email
Mike Barbier about the progress.
Active Trans – Bike Walk West – Mini Grant – Laurel Salvador was the main point of contact for this and
since she wasn’t at our meeting I will reach out to her to discuss the status of the grant.
New Business:
Wheaton Park District – Color Fun Run 5k – Michelle Dunlap proposed having a table promoting the
commission at the 5k run. A formal vote was held on whether to attend the event or not and it was
passed to attend and have a table in Memorial park. Michelle Dunlap offered to set up and work the
event and Therese Kushman mentioned that she was going to run and could help-out after the race.
Others were checking their schedules on whether they were able to attend the event.
Other topics from Commission Members:
Discussed having the display at the library in May for National Bike Month. Rita Nathanson said that she
will reach out to her contact at the library to discuss getting a public display.
Upcoming Meetings: Wednesday April 18th, 2018 & Wednesday May 16th, 2018
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm
Respectfully Submitted: By Dan Dlhy
