Bike Festival – August 11th – Paula Barrington from the Downtown Wheaton Association wasn’t able to
attend our meeting. Since I Have a Bean is not able to participate in the festival this year, Rita
Nathanson will speak with Paula Barrington about approaching My Half of the Sky (coffee shop) to
attend the festival.
Discussed the ride after the festival and Dan Dlhy will lead the ride and ensure that all participants have
a helmet and waiver but will need at least one person to be the sweep for the ride. We also discussed
who from the commission will be attending the festival this year, the giveaways, the planned bike route
with the construction on Front Street as well as putting a list of vendors that would like to participate
again this year. We also viewed the various marketing pieces that were created for this years festival.
Taste of Wheaton – Bike Valet – June 2nd: Michelle Dunlap had posted the sign – up form for the bike
valet and the times slots are as follows: 6-10:30am, 10:30am – 3pm and 3pm until close (7pm). It was
decided that we will keep the bandanas for the bike festival and not give them out at the bike valet.
Bike / Walk to School – Spring (May 9th): Therese Kushman reported that the bad weather on the day
of the event affected the numbers as it prevented the children from riding or walking to school that day.
At one school the safety video was shown in the school lunch room. At another school, children received
crossaints for pledging to ride their bike to school or walk to school when the weather is nicer. No
actual numbers were gathered for this year’s event.
Wheaton Public Library Display (Bike Month): Rita Nathanson reported that the library didn’t have any
space for our display this month but promised that we could set it up in July. So it was decided that we
will have a display in the Wheaton Public Library in July which will help promote our Bike Festival.
Progressive Dinner Group Ride: Carrie Provost proposed having our commission turn a group ride into
a Progressive Dinner outing. It was decided that this would be just for our commission and we will
have to create a route based on who is participating in the event. More details to come.
