Minutes

Wednesday August 15th, 2018 7pm I. Call to Order Chair, Dan Dlhy called the meeting to order at 7:03pm II. Bike Festival Recap Discussed the recap of the 2018 Bike Wheaton Festival and concluded that there was less turnout for this year’s event. We discussed promoting the event better for next year with some of the following ideas: marketing in local churches, the children’s section of the Wheaton Public Library, promote the event through WBEZ radio, gathering email lists from the city. The promotional signs that were placed throughout the city and along the Prairie Path were only one – sided and we thought that didn’t help with visibility. The vendor participation was excellent for this year’s event and we thought that we should poll the vendors to see what they thought about the festival’s attendance. Working Bikes reported that they received 18 or 19 bicycles during this year’s event. The Wheaton Police department didn’t stop traffic along the parade route and it seemed as if the riders were back in the park in about five – ten minutes which was way too fast. III. History Ride – September 22nd Nancy Flannery is still going to create fliers with stop ideas for us. We are looking to promote this event through the city website. Carrie Provost will create the route for the ride and can lead the ride. IV. 2019 WBAC Budget Discussed the 2019 budget for our commission and explained that we should have about $1,000 for next year allocated to us. Will need to ask the city about selling WBAC t-shirts at cost at festivals and events since there is some interest from the community. V. Group Ride Reminder – Saturday August 25th Reminded the group of the upcoming group ride and it will be a ride to Naperville and will also have brunch at a local restaurant. VI. “Complete Streets” Program & Brighton Avenue Repaving Laurel Salvador explained that she will take the lead on researching and reporting back to us. Part of the five year plan is for the city of Wheaton to repave Brighton Avenue and Michelle Dunlap and Jim Knasel reported that they will speak with the Assistant City Manager about this project and to make sure that they know about bike routes using that street. VII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 8:13 pm
