Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission

Wednesday September 19th, 2018 7pm I. Call to Order Chair, Dan Dlhy called the meeting to order at 7:02pm Attendees: Therese Kushman, Dan Dlhy, Nancy Allured, Rita Nathanson, Bill Nieman, Michelle Dunlap and Nancy Flannery. II. History Ride – September 22nd Nancy Flannery of the Wheaton Historic Commission attended our meeting as we discussed the 2018 History Ride. She handed out pamphlets that they are going to use to hand out to the riders. This year’s tour will be focused on World War I. Nancy Flannery will be joining the ride and speaking at each of the stops to provide information on the history of each location. There was an article in the Daily Herald promoting the event. The starting point will the west side of the Wheaton Public Library and the ride will start at 2pm. III. Walk / Bike to School - Fall This year’s event will be held on Wednesday October 10th and Therese Kushman will email the schools about the event. IV. Bike Festival Recap – For Nancy Allured Since Nancy Allured wasn’t able to attend the August meeting, we did a quick recap on the Bike Festival from August. There was discussion of getting a questionnaire out to the vendors to get their thoughts on this year’s event. Also discussed was a ‘thank you’ letter that should go out to the vendors that attended. Also, we should get photos of the vendors that attended. There was discussion of selecting another date (other than the second Saturday in August) to try and boost attendance. Nancy Allured stated that she will reach out to Paula Barrington of the Downtown Wheaton Association to pass along our thoughts, get feedback of other possible dates and locations. V. Group Ride Reminder – Thursday October 11th Reminded the group of the upcoming group ride on Thursday October 11th which is going out to St. James Farm. VI. Chair Report Mentioned that we have new Letterhead for our communications (i.e. Meeting Agenda’s, Meeting Minutes) and told everyone that I will pass that information out to them via email. Also mentioned that there was a banner that I saw attached to a light pole in downtown Wheaton and wanted to know more about those. We discussed the origin of the banners and that we should probably look to have those replaced with newer ones. Also, brought up the idea of getting a card and gift to Paula Barrington for her work on the Bike Festival and Rita Nathanson wanted to work on that for the group. Also, it was mentioned that we have passed more Bike  BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMISSIONMEETING MINUTES Month Date, Year Maps to Midwest Cyclery per their request, riders are taking and using them which is great to see.
