Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission

Wednesday July 17th, 2019 7pm, Conley Room I. Call to Order Dan Dlhy called the meeting to order at 7:05pm Attendees: Dan Dlhy, Bill Nieman, Rita Nathanson, Carrie Provost, Nancy Allured, Alyse Kondrat, Doug Jones, Laurel Salvadore, Therese Kushman and Paula Barrington Approval of Minutes: Carrie Provost approved the minutes and Alyse Kondrat seconded Public Comment: None II. Chair Report None III. Ongoing Business: Bicycle Festival – 2019 – Paula Barrington attended the meeting to finalize plans for the Bicycle Festival. She passed out the remaining posters and postcards for us to pass out. She confirmed that the Face Painter, AAA, the DJ, the Wheaton Municipal Band, Prizes, Judges and the Sheriffs Office will all be ready for the festival. She informed us that the yard signs will be ready by tomorrow so that we can stop by and start distributing them around town. She also mentioned that City Hall will be open on the day of the event for water and bathrooms. May – Bike Month – Library Display – Rita Nathanson reported that the library will be taking down our display on July 31st. We all thanked Rita for heading up the project as the display was excellent. History Ride – 2019 – Brief discussion to go through the event and next months meeting we will finalize the plans for the event. Wheaton Bicycle Plan / Brighton Drive – Laurel discussed the Brighton Drive ideas and mentioned that instead of making it a dedicated bike lane but rather have parking lanes that can serve vehicles and bicycles. She is going to invite John Duguay (the Assistant City Manager) to our August meeting. Alyse Kondrat mentioned that she would be happy to put together a Power Point slide presentation that we can use for meetings with City Officials and when promoting the group. She would love to present it at the August meeting. T-Shirts for Sale – Rita Nathanson reported the cost of the t-shirts for the commission members would be $20 per t-shirt and she had sizes and colors to select from. All commission members who are interested in t-shirts placed their orders.  BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMISSIONMEETING MINUTES Month Date, Year IV. Other Topics / New Business: Roosevelt Road Zoning Meeting – The planning meeting will be held on August 12th, 2019. Bicycle Racks – Bill Nieman will send out emails with information that has been gathered about this matter. Bike Repair Station – Alyse Kondrat would love to get Erica Bray-Parker’s contact information and lead the project in discussion to see what the commission can do to get one added to downtown Wheaton off of the Prairie Path.
