I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm by commission co-chair Alyse Kondrat
II. Approval of Minutes
The Minutes from the June 2021 Commission meeting were unanimously approved by raised hand.
Bob moved that we accept the minutes as written. Janet seconded the motion.
III. Public Comment
George Schmidt would like to apply to be a Commission member. He brought his resume. Alyse and
the commission welcomed him and directed him to apply online.
IV. Chair Report
A. Sidney Kenyon, DuPage County Trails Coordinator and ADA Coordinator spoke with the
Commission about three trails priorities for the County currently:
a. ADA Plan - Improving pedestrian facilities to comply with ADA regulations
b. East Branch DuPage River Trail Plan - working with many organizations to plan and
implement a north-to-south county trail along the East DuPage River from Roselle in the
north. The process will include study, planning, design, coordinating and land
acquisition. They are currently in the study stage.
c. Current DuPage Trails Plan - To Manage and Operate the current trails within DuPage
County. Working on invasive species along trails, being a good neighbor and identifying
new connections that may be helpful in the communities. This program will include
public engagement meetings gaining input from the communities.
d. Benjamin Nau had agreed to be a commission member, but resigned because he
thought he had over committed.
B. Treasurer Report -
a. Michelle moved that we spend up to $100 for a Commission banner to be used at
events. Bob seconded the motion. The vote was 7 Yes, 1 No The motion carried. Rita will
provide the logo and Alyse will provide the text.
b. French Market materials - Michelle moved that we reimburse Bob Van Vlazah for
materials used at the commission table at the French Market. Nancy seconded the
motion. It passed with the unanimous voice vote.
c. Bike Map Printing - Alyse moved that the Wheaton Bike Route Map be reprinted at a
cost of no more than $1,000. Bob seconded the motion. The verbal vote was unanimous.

A business card size piece will be added as a small handout. Alyse will get estimates so
we can vote next month.
C. New Commission Member - David Duve has submitted his paperwork to join the commission. It
is awaiting approval.
V. Ongoing Business
A. French Market - Bob reported that the table at the French Market has been a good experience.
Many Bike Route maps have been handed out and there is good traffic at the table with interest
in biking in Wheaton. The next date will be August 7.
B. Library Bike presentation - Rita reported that the program was excellent with great follow up
provided by the library with links to materials and information mentioned during the
presentation.
C. Safe Routes to School - Bill presented his research efforts with two Wheaton schools, Whittier
Elementary School and Monroe Middle School. He provided survey results from PTA members,
parents and students regarding biking to school, needs, concerns and suggestions. Bill will use
the results to plan safe routes to school with these two pilot schools.
D. History Ride - Michelle presented a handout for the ride and suggested we promote the ride at
the French Market table. Alyse moved that we spend up to $25 to print simple handouts.
Michelle seconded. The motion passed unanimously by voice.
VI. New Business
A. Forest Preserve Etiquette - Nancy stated no report. Awaiting info from the DuPage District.
B. WBAC Logo and T-shirts for new commission members - Rita stated no report at this time.
C. Safety issue at Main St and Roosevelt crossing - Rita identified a dangerous crossing issue for
pedestrians and bicyclists based on the traffic light settings. She will work on a proposal to
present this to the organizations needed to help with possible fixes.
D. Photo Contest - this project has been tabled due to other priorities of the Commission
