November 17, 2021 7pm Gammon Room, Wheaton City Hall, Wheaton, IL I. Call to Order -7:11 II. Approval of Minutes-tabled to next meeting III. Public Comment IV. Chair Report A. Guest with interest in joining-Brian Bobigian i. Brian introduced himself and all members introduced themselves and the projects we have been working on recently. B. Council meeting-Roosevelt switch proposal was discussed during ongoing business. No plans yet to present at a council meeting. C. Budget-Michelle $1144 left-vote to spend the following amounts was approved by unanimous voice vote 1. french market-$400 a. 3 helmets giveaways b. trinkets giveaways 2. bike rodeo giveaways-$400 3. maps-up to $340 Bob will work with Michelle to identify giveaways to purchase V. Ongoing Business A. Safe routes update - Bill i. Bill spoke to kids biking to get ideas about what they like about biking to school ii. Bill will email maps for parents who participated in survey B. Proposal for Roosevelt Signal-Bob and Alyse will edit. We voted to approve based on the concept, the only thing will change is the format of the proposal. Proposal approved by unanimous voice vote C. Bike Rodeo-Laurel emailed police to get ideas for next year, May 2022. Waiting to hear back from police as to dates. Planning to use the Rice Pool parking lot if the park district approves. Also she is looking for contacts for a bike helmet giveaway. D. Trail Survey https://www.dupagetrailsplan.com- closed 11/9-Michelle. Thanks to all who participated. E. History Ride Sept 17th, 2022- i. Michelle has reached out to someone who is interested in leading. We will invite her next year to a meeting to discuss what topics we could cover for history ride BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING AGENDA November 17, 2021 ii. Bill-the great fires of Wheaton could be a subject. Bill heard Bob Goldsborough speak at a city meeting and maybe use him as speaker. He researched the history of Wheaton rd underpass. He will be giving a talk next year at Wheaton Library about the great fires of Wheaton. We can reach out to Bob Goldsborough as a possible docent. iii. History of downtown Wheaton buildings. What used to be there iv. We could maybe have 2 history rides next year. VI. New Business A. Underpass-city reached out to the Commission to ask if we would approve a ramp on the stairs. We all agreed with the idea. Alyse will email John Duguay with Commission’s approval. i. There was discussion about the fact that it would be even better to make it ADA compliant so wheelchairs and strollers could use it but that had been discussed by city earlier as not an option. B. USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships@Cantigny volunteers (Nov 29- Dec 12)-https://forms.gle/duqaJVPQ3uXstKNZ8 - Michelle C. Signage at St. James is up. Rita needs to follow up to get our map behind the glass in the display case. Her contact is Kevin Horsfall. D. Should we create a “biking with council” similar to our meetings with coffee with council. i. We could bike to a local coffee shop and meet there with interested parties. ii. We could have a local establishment we meet at after bike rides for discussion with new people who join rides to discuss WBAC and what we do. Plan to add to at least once a month group rides next year E. Once the French Market is done we might not get a table because it’s a limited space. If this happens, Bob suggested we put a table near the repair station. It may not be done by spring but this is a good idea once the market is built VII. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 VIII.
