WHEATON HOUSING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES REGULAR MEETING December 8, 2016 The regular meeting of the Wheaton Housing Commission was held in the Gamon Room, Wheaton City Hall, at 303 W. Wesley Street, Wheaton, Illinois. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016 by Housing Commission Chair, Tom Hudock. Present: Absent: Thomas Hudock Raj Salgia Jeannie Iseman Chris Ellerman Andrea Petti Stuart Johnson Jan Kay Mike Rybinski William Gilbertson Joe Kreidl - City of Wheaton Special Guests: Bob Barger, resident of Wheaton. Public Comment: None. Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Ellerman was not in attendance last month. He is currently listed as both present and absent. Commissioner Johnson moved and Commissioner Petti seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the November 10, 2016 meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Communications: ● 2016/2017 Wheaton Housing Assistance Summary - UPDATED ● Wheaton Housing Commission November 2016 minutes Old Business: ● none. New Business: ● Commissioner Hudock introduces Mr. Bob Barger, again in attendance for having interest in participating as a commissioner for the next year. City council has yet to approve his seat on the commission. ● Commissioners would like to commend and recognize Lindsay Qualkenbush for the updated Wheaton Housing Assistance Summary. It is much easier to read and print out. ● Mr. Bob Barger would like to consider how to distribute more information to those in need. He served on the DuPage Senior Citizens Council, and would like the information about the Housing Assistance 1  Program to be sent out to the Meals on Wheels distribution list to Wheaton residents. Commissioner Hudock would like L. Qualkenbush to contact the DuPage Senior Citizens Council, Mary Lynn Krolak (Executive Director). ● The meeting schedule for 2017 has been distributed by L. Qualkenbush. There was no additional discussion regarding the 2017 schedule. Commissioner Kay motioned to approve, and Commissioner Gilbertson seconded. The motion moved unanimously. ● Commissioner Kay brought up an article about a home-based prescription assistance through the Illinois Department of Aging and the Bolingbrook-based APC (Advanced Patient Care - 815.580.2020). Commissioner Kay would like investigate this service for our residents in the program, and possibly get the information out in our upcoming newsletter. ● Commissioner Kay would like to investigate the incentives needed for builders and developers to include affordable housing in developments. She would like to try to get a representative from Airhart to come for the January 12, 2017 meeting. Discussion of Next Meeting Agenda: ● Commissioner Hudock would like to revisit having speakers come to present to educate the commission further about issues of housing in Wheaton and DuPage County. Commissioners Ellerman, Iseman, and Kay have been interested in recruiting presenters in the past, and are asked to consider options to discuss for next month’s meeting. ● Commissioner Petti found a proposed consolidated plan that DuPage County is completing that considers the proportionate cost of rentership versus ownership. If worthwhile, the commission will look at the report together at the January meeting. Adjournment: Commissioner Rybinski motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:08 p.m. and Commissioner Gilbertson seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. 2
