CITY OF WHEATON COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes - Wednesday, April 22, 2015 I. Call to Order: by Chairman Ronnie Gillis at 7:05 p.m. II. Roll Call: Commission Members Present: Commission Members Absent: Ronnie Gillis Dan Loftus Bill Balis Bill Gilbertson Bobby McNeily Vickie Miller Tom Teune Renee Webb Desiray Young Citizens to be heard: None. IV. Approval of the minutes: from March 4, 2015. Ronnie moved, Bobby seconded and the motion for approval carried. V. Continuing Business: A. Military Projects – Desiray Young. Desiray presented the newly framed picture of the 1st Battalion/18th Infantry in military formation, wearing their new workout t-shirts. Desiray was planning on consulting with City Hall on where to display this picture. B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus No report. Dan’s meeting with Betsy Adamowski from the Wheaton Public Library was cancelled and was rescheduled for next month. C. Make a Difference Day – Bill Gilbertson. While it had been discussed to refocus our military support away from Make a Difference Day to Flag Day in June, it was decided that it was too late in the year to accomplish. For this year we would continue to combine our troop support with Make a Difference Day and extend that through Veterans Day in November. We will consider on planning our military emphasis on Flag Day next year. D. Serve Illinois/Cities of Service – Renee Webb. No report. E. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller. Packets of the nominees for the Good Citizens Awards were provided to each of the Commissioners by City Clerk, Sharon Barrett-Hagen, prior to the meeting. After a thorough review of the criteria for considering these candidates we discussed each individual or group and voted on their merit. The voting resulted in 20 recipients of the 2015 Good Citizens Awards. The May 18 Reception was discussed and everyone was asked to be at City Hall at 5:00 p.m. to assist in setting up the event. F. Treasurer’s Report -- Tom Teune. Tom submitted a report of our expenditures through 3/31/15. It shows we have a balance of $1,777.83 remaining on our fiscal budget. It was thoroughly discussed and voted on to review our needs for banners, replacement stands and supplies and get orders in as soon as possible to take advantage of these funds. G. Media Coordinator – No report. VI. New Business: None -1- VII. Commissioners Comments: Chairperson Gillis reminded us that we would hold the election of officers at our May meeting. She asked if all current officers would be willing to remain in their positions and they answered “yes.’ With Michelle Rollin’s resignation the Media Coordinator position was left open. Chairperson Gillis then nominated Commissioner Bobby McNeily to fill this role. VIII. Adjournment: Renee moved, Vickie seconded, a motion to adjourn at 8:35 p.m. Motion passed. -2-
