COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION
Minutes - Wednesday, June 3, 2015
I. Call to Order: by Chairman Ronnie Gillis at 7:05 p.m.
II. Roll Call:

III. Citizens to be heard: None.
IV. Approval of the minutes: from May 18, 2015. Bobby moved, Vickie seconded and the motion for
approval carried.
V. Continuing Business:
A. Military Projects – Desiray Young. No report
B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus. Bobby reported on the second meeting that he and Dan had with Betsy
Adamowski. Our Committee will be partnering with the Wheaton Public Library on Sunday, September
13, 2015 from Noon until 4:00 pm. The Wheaton Park District will provide 10 tents for our cultural
activities between the library building and Adams Park. A stage will be setup on the stairs leading into the
library for concerts and entertainment. Some of the cultural events include the Turkish group, yoga, the
Chamber of Commerce, appropriate children’s books, etc. One of the tents will be used by the CRC to talk
about our activities with the attendees and maybe recruit some new volunteers.
C. Make a Difference Day – Bill Gilbertson. Bill said he had spoken with former Commissioner, Laurie
Oberhelman and she had already sent out emails to our sponsors for our Make a Difference Day banners.
He plans to review our current supply of banners to make sure they are ready to go. We will continue to
the support the families of our Division One Troops with our ongoing campaign through Veteran’s Day but
he also wants to focus on getting the citizens of Wheaton involved in doing a good deed on Make a
Difference Day itself.
D. Serve Illinois/Cities of Service – Renee Webb. No report.
E. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller. Ronnie expressed her gratitude to Vickie and the Committee for the great
job everybody did to make the Good Citizen Award event a tremendous success.
F. Treasurer’s Report – Bill Balis. The Commission discussed the breakdown of our 2015/16 budget and
made recommendations as follows: Military Projects - $1,000, Cultural Diversity - $650, Make a
Difference Day - $1,000 and Good Citizens - $350.
G. Media Coordinator – Bobby McNeily. No report.
VI. New Business: None
VII. Commissioners Comments: Erik Miller who had attended previous Commission meetings informed us
that he had submitted an application to City Hall to volunteer for the Community Relations Commission.
VIII. Adjournment: Bill G moved and Vickie seconded a motion to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. Motion passed.
