A. Military Projects – Bill Gilbertson. Bill indicated that we would continue to collect stocking stuffers,
snacks and gift cards for the stockings and gift bags for the needy families of our adopted troops. Donation
collection boxes would be placed at the library, City Hall, train station and Wheaton Sports Center. Since
we had to purchase new pole banners this year there wouldn’t be enough money left from our sponsors to
purchase a major gift item for the troops this year but we would do something special for them for them.
We did discuss using funds from the CRC budget if needed. He also indicated there were no new plans to
schedule a military event around the Flag Day time frame.
B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus. Dan was satisfied with Wheaton World Tour event that he partnered with
the Wheaton Library on Sunday, September 13. He estimated that over 300 people attended at least a
portion of the event. He and Library Director, Betsy Adamowski, were planning to meet later date to
discuss any improvements that needed to be made but thought the partnership and the format were
successful and would be planned for future events.
C. Make a Difference Day – Bill Gilbertson. Bill said that the new pole banners had been created and turned
over to the Public Works people to be installed. The large banners had been set up at City Hall, the French
Market, 7 Gables Park, the Library, etc. A schedule was established to man the table at the French market
during the first 4 Saturdays of October. A handout piece had been created and also a list of organizations
needing volunteers which people could request. Bobby McNeily was selected to receive the MADD
proclamation from Mayor Gresk at the October 19 City Council meeting. 3 other Commissioners indicated
they would attend the meeting. Bill indicated that he would provide information to Susan Bishel for the
