III. Citizens to be heard: We were visited by Steve Limp who was interested in learning about our Commis-
sion to see if it would be a fit for him to join. Each of the Commissioners gave Steve a detailed overview
of the various projects that they were working on. After listening to everyone Steve indicated in his current
role at MB Financial Bank he worked with several area non-profits and the work we do on the Community
Relations Commission was similar and he would seek to receive an appointment from the City Council to
our Commission.
IV. Approval of the minutes: from February 1, 2017. Tony Lyon moved, Ronnie Gillis seconded and the mo-
tion for approval carried.
V. Continuing Business:
A. Military Projects -- Bill Gilbertson. — No Report
B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus/Bobby McNeily/Gail Forrest— Gail reported that the event had been set
for Sunday, May 21 from 12:30 to 3:30. There was a plan in place in the event of bad weather so the date
is firm. The theme for the event would be “A World of Fun” Betsy Adamoski and Dan are in the midst of
lining up the participants from past events to include: Renew, PRC, World Relief, DuPage County Muse-
um, Downtown Wheaton Association, Dignity for Girls, Community School of the Arts and Sister City
Commission. Each organization would have a tent showing what they do and who they are. They would
also have a game or a craft that is inspired from different parts of the world. We will probably need the
$500 that was budgeted for the event to update banners, additional advertising and a DJ for music. We will
also need Commission Volunteers to man the CRC booth (The History of Wheaton, same as last year) and
help with the Library Games. We also need someone to take photos. The Library is already advertising
and printing posters. We need someone to get our event into the Wheaton Newsletter on the City of
Wheaton website and maybe schedule a Chat with the Mayor on TV.
C. Make a Difference Day – Renee Webb/Ronnie Gilles.— No Report
D. Serve Illinois/Cities of Service – Tony Lyons. — Tony indicated that with the budget problems going on in
Springfield that funding for the program wasn’t available so he hadn’t done any work on the project. He
did indicate that he would try to find out the status on the funding before the next scheduled meeting.
E. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller. — Vickie informed us that the Good Citizens Banners had been positioned
at City Hall, the French Market and 7 Gables Park. Nomination forms were being mailed to High Schools
and Groups and would be made available in places like City Hall and the Library.
F. Treasurer’s Report—Erik Miller — Erik reported that there was no change in our ending balance from
last month of $3,814.
G. Media Coordinator – Bobby McNeily.— No Report
