CITY OF WHEATON COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes – Wednesday, November 1, 2017 I. Call to Order: by Ronnie Gillis at 7:10pm II. Roll Call: Commission Members Present Commission Members Absent Leslie Day Gail Forrest Vickie Miller Steve Limp Ronnie Gillis Renee Webb Bill Gilbertson Erik Miller Colleen Attwell III. Citizens to be heard: We were visited by four students from Wheaton North Government AP Class. Ronnie and Bill took some time to explain the purpose of the Commission and the work that we do. IV. Approval of the minutes: From October 4, 2017. Bill Gilbertson moved, Erik Miller seconded and the motion for approval carried. V. Continuing Business: A. Military Projects – Bill Gilbertson —Bill Gilbertson has been in contact with Fort Riley and is working on securing the list of families/children for the holiday stockings before Thanksgiving. A shopping sub-committee of Gail Forrest, Leslie Day, Colleen Attwell and Bill Gilberston will shop for the gifts/gift cards. In lieu of a regular December meeting, the Commission will meet on December 6th at 6pm in the City Hall cafeteria for stocking stuffing. B. Cultural Diversity – Steve Limp — No report. C. Make a Difference Day – Renee Webb/Ronnie Gillis — We had great participation for Donuts for Donations/Make a Difference Day on October 28th and the collection was a success. Leslie Day was able to secure donations of coffee and donuts. Donors told members they heard about this event in the city e-newsletter, the Patch and the city water bill. In addition, several members volunteered at Scarce to help recycle and remold crayons. D. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller — Nothing to report at this time. Planning will gear up in January. E. Treasurer’s Report—Erik Miller — Erik reported on remaining funds for the fiscal year in order to plan for the holiday gift giving for military families and Good Citizens Awards. Discussion of the annual budget request from the City that must be submitted and ways to make additional revenue (donations, banner sales, etc.) took place. A motion to submit a request for $4,000 from the City was made by Ronnie Gillis and seconded by Erik Miller. The motion passed. F. Media Coordinator – Steve Limp — No report. VI. New Business: The list of meeting and event dates was discussed for submission to City Council by end of November. Meeting dates were confirmed and we have just one event date (Good Citizens) to confirm yet. VII. Commissioner Comments: None VIII. Adjournment: Bill Gilberston moved, Vickie Miller seconded a motion to adjourn at 8:15 pm. The motion passed.
