City of Wheaton Community Relations Commission Special Meeting Minutes – June 21, 2018 I. Call to Order: by Tony Asta at 7:40 p.m. II. Welcome & Roll Call: Present: Gail Forest, Erica Nelson, Julie Kulovitz, Leslie Day, Tony Asta, and Shayne Moore Absent: none, optional meeting III. Citizens to be Heard Mehret Asgedom IV. Approval of Agenda Tony Asta moved and Erica Nelson seconded to approve the agenda V. Meeting Objective/Goals The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Festival of Cultures planning VI. Meeting Synopsis  A few dates to remember: September 11- Ethiopian New Year ; September 15 = Mexican independence day  Tony discussed the performances: We have the Chicago Folklore Ensemble and Afrobeats committed. There is a Mariachi band we are considering, but it would put us over budget. We discussed using local groups to present a few performances, that would create a buy in  We discussed sponsorship and various ways to highlight sponsors and the various packages.  We also selling donations to a flag for future shows.  We discussed various booklets, passports, etc.  We talked about the groups, and who has a group they will contact to participate  We discussed food and the issues surrounding food. We have decided for this year to only focus on food trucks  Next meeting on July 19th, at 6:30 I. Adjournment Tony Asta moved and Erica Nelson seconded to adjourn the meeting at 9:04 p.m.
