Commission needs to update meeting dates and special events for 2019. Gail should
follow up with Sharon to get new fiscal year budget and administrative dates.
a. Finance: We still need clarity on how much we have to spend, but believe it is
$4,000. Two things we may spend money on: paying for booths and tables at
Festival of Cultures, which we could pre-pay. We also may have to pay for
storage moving forward. …. Gail should follow up with Sharon to get new fiscal
year budget and administrative dates.
b. Communications: We were supposed to have a chat with the Mayor, that
never happened. Shayne is going to follow up on this.
c. Festival of Cultures: Focusing on Sept. 15 for next year’s meeting. If it
can’t be at Memorial Park, some other options are now being considered.
Discussed the idea of allowing vendors to sell items during the festival. Length of
the festival discussed. Three, four, or six hours all possibilities. Possibility of two
stages, one with ethnic acts that we did not have room for last year. By mid-
January we should be able to finalize location, date and time. Julie suggested it
would be good to have one committee person deal with the schools. Erica is going
to send out updated Excel document, created by Colleen, with Festival of Culture
notes that outline steps to take leading up to the event.
d. Good Citizens Awards: No Report
e. Make a Difference Day: Some commissioners volunteered at the People’s
Resource Center in early October. On Make a Difference Day, community
members came in and told stories about how they gave back to a camera crew. A
lot of members from District 200 Student Excellence Foundation were present.
There was also a proclamation read earlier in the month. Larniecia is working with
the City to put together a video package from event.
f. Military Projects: No Report. Will revisit after the first of the year.
g. Business Sponsorships: Leslie, the former chair, has left the
Commission.
VI. New Business
Marcella is interested in joining the Commission. Wants to learn more about what the
Commission does. The commissions fully approved Marcella’s nomination, and Gail
was to get council OK.
VII. Commissioner Comments: Tony discussed that he’s also on the Fine Arts
commission.
VIII. Adjournment: Julie moved and Erica seconded a motion to adjourned at 8:25
p.m.. The motion passed.
Next Meeting is Jan. 9, 2019
