Community Relation Commission Meeting
Wednesday, December 2, 2020

Virtual Meeting
I. Call to Order 7:04pm
II. Welcome everyone
III. Roll Call – Present: Colleen Attwell, Katie Sivak, Saleha Jawaid, Larniecia Smith, Jennifer
Sever, Rachel Bautista, Kay Frederick, Krista Selvey, Erica Nelson, and Tony Asta. Absent:
Kristen Santiago. Guests: Laura Peccarelli
IV. Approval of Minutes – Katie Sivak made a motion to approve November minutes. Saleha
Jawaid seconded the motion.
V. Committee Updates –
a. Veterans update – The “Conversations with Veterans” was distributed on Veterans Day.
We are discussing the possibility for additional videos to be produced. Suggestions
include Conversations with Women Veterans for Women’s History Month in March,
focus on Vietnam War Veterans, Korean War Veterans.
b. Poinsettia update – Katie, Jen and Colleen delivered 20 poinsettias on December 2 to
WCRC partners and fire/police/public works.
c. Strategy & Planning – Rachel and Jen have been working on rethinking our
purpose/mission and an audit of our current events/initiatives to make sure they are in
alignment. Overall direction was discussed. A more in-depth deck will be shared with
the group for comment before the January meeting.
VI. New Business -
a. Reindeer – We participated in DWA’s Reindeer on Parade this year. The WCRC reindeer
is in the plaza at the corner of Main/Front Streets. Thanks to Jen for organizing and
decorating.
b. Rachel Bautista reminded everyone of the DIE Speaker Series via the Wheaton Public
Library. The takes place the first Thursday of the month in a virtual format. Upcoming
dates: December 3 - Systematic Racism and January 7 - Becoming Antiracist
VII. Adjournment – 8:15pm. Tony motioned to adjourn, Katie seconded the motion.
