MINUTES Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission Tuesday, June 27, 2017 Roll Call: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30. Present were Nancy Allured, Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Kay McKeen, Christine Richardson, Hanna Self, Allison Torrence, and Bob Young. Absent were Shamili Ajgaonkar, Brittany Drummond, Tony Majszak, Tony Pope, and Joseph Wilmarth Tyna. Dan Dlhy, chairman of the bike sub-committee also attended. Minutes: Bob moved that we accept the minutes of the May meeting. Nancy Allured seconded. The minutes were approved. Public Comment: none Budget Report: Bob reported that the final invoice from the plant sale was deducted from last year's budget, giving us total expenditures for fiscal year 2017 of $17,164.80 out of our budget of $21,500. Our expenses to date for this year are $35, leaving $21,465 open to spend. Other Reports: 1. Bike Committee Report: Dan reported that the bike valet at Taste of Wheaton on June 3 was open from 6:30 am to 7pm. They parked 110 bikes. The signs on the Illinois Prairie Path let many people know about it, and they had bikers from Carol Stream and Elmhurst. They did a group ride on June 7, and someone from the Warrenville bike committee joined them. The history ride which was previously cancelled due to weather is tentatively rescheduled for September 24 from 2-4. 2. Electronic Recycling Report: Tony Pope sent a report that he, Bob, Nancy Allured, and Joe worked the event for EIC. There were also five volunteers from District 200 Special Adult Education Group and a field supervisor, and EWorks employees. 227 cars dropped items off. About 36 gallons of cooking oil and 275 fluorescent bulbs were recycled. Bob reported that we are receiving many more bulbs each month. 3. Adopt a Highway Report: Nancy Flynn reported that on June 17 she, her husband Brent, and Bob collected three bags of trash. Upcoming Projects: 1. Electronic Recycling (July 8 and August 12): Bob can do both, but more member help is needed. 2. Adopt a Highway: August 19 at 7:30 3. Bike Fest (August 12): The event will be from 10-12, and will include yoga before riding, the bike parade, and some information booths and possibly bike-related vendors. They are encouraging businesses to decorate a bike to represent their business and are hoping for some vintage bikes to participate. Working Bikes will collect bike donations. Unfinished Business: 1. Street Lamp Banners/Feather Signs Design Contest: No report. Christine is following up with Susan Bishel on possible design ideas, New Business: 1. Ted reported on the second Downtown planning session, where possible plans for Martin Plaza and Prairie Path were discussed. 2. Kay reported that the Green Fair will be held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 30. Adjournment: Nancy Allured moved that the meeting be adjourned. Bob seconded.
