MINUTES Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission Tuesday, November 28, 2017 Roll Call: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30. Present were Shamili Ajgaonkar, Nancy Allured, Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, David Popham, Hanna Self, Allison Torrence, and Bob Young. Absent were Brittany Drummond, Tony Majszak, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, and Christine Richardson. Minutes: Bob moved that we accept the minutes of the October meeting as amended. Nancy Allured seconded. The minutes were approved. Public Comment: none Budget Report: Bob reported that the bills for bulb eater supplies were paid, bringing year to date expenses to $280.50, leaving $21,219.50 open to spend. Other Reports: 1. Bike Committee Report: Nancy Allured reported that they are recruiting volunteers and working on recommendations to make bike accommodations a priority in Phase 2 of the downtown plan. 2. Electronic Recycling Report: Tony Majszak, Nancy Flynn, Allison, and David worked the November 11 collection. There were 295 vehicles, and 206 fluorescent bulbs and 3 gallons of cooking oil were collected. 3. Adopt a Highway Report: Nancy Flynn reported that the 5th and last clean up of the year was held on November 18. Nancy Flynn, her husband Brent, Nancy Allured, and Bob cleaned in terrible weather, and they collected four bags. 4. Pumpkin Composting Report: Kay emailed a report that 576 pumpkins were collected in Wheaton, and 71.7 tons of pumpkins were composted in Illinois. Bob, Nancy Flynn, and volunteers from COD, Wheaton Warrenville South High School, and Wheaton North High School helped with the event. Upcoming Projects: 1. Electronic Recycling: December 9 Tony Pope, Tony Majszak, and David will be crew chiefs; January 13 Bob will be crew chief 2. Paper Shredding (April 7) 3. Electronic Recycling (April 14) 4. Prairie Path Clean Up (April 28) 5. Native Plant Sale (April 28) 6. Bike Festival (August 11) Unfinished Business: 1. Street Lamp Banner/Feather Signs—Design Contest: tabled 2. Environmental Film Sponsorship: Shamili reported that the One Earth Film Festival will be March 2- March 11. If we have a space, she will obtain trailers for family-friendly films and email them to the commission for voting. New Business: none Adjournment: Bob moved that the meeting be adjourned.
