Majszak, Tony Pope, Christine Richardson, and Bob Young.

approved.
Public Comment: none
Budget Report: Bob sent a report that expenses to date totaled $341.50. Budget remaining is $21,158.50.
Other Reports:
1. Bike Committee Report: Nancy Allured reported that they are in the process of transitioning to a city
commission.
2. Electronic Recycling Report: Tony Pope sent a report that he and Bob, high school volunteers Audrey Kamal
from Wheaton North and Rachelle Mendoza from St. Francis, and five employees from E Works worked on
Saturday March 10th. There were 309 vehicles, 218 from Wheaton, 32 from Glen Ellyn, 15 from Carol
Stream, 10 each from West Chicago and Winfield, and less than 10 from thirteen other communities. 242
fluorescent bulbs and 8 gallons of cooking oil were also recycled.
3. Adopt a Highway Report: Nancy Flynn reported that she, Nancy Allured, Bob, Tony Majzak and daughter
Charlotte, Dave and sons Zach and Alex, and Liz Albert collected 10 bags of garbage along Butterfield Road
on March 3 in unpleasant weather. The next clean up will be May 5 at 8 am.
Upcoming Projects:
1. Electronic Recycling (April 14): Bob and David will be crew chiefs.
2. Paper Shredding (April 7): Kay reported that there will be 3 trucks. We will need to be more diligent in
making sure people have sorted out plastic and rubber bands, as our paper was unable to be recycled last year.
3. Arbor Day (April 27): Franklin Middle School
4. Prairie Path Clean Up (April 28): Christine has emailed previous participants.
5. Native Plant Sale (April 28): Kay reported that the plants are ordered, and there will be fewer trees and more
flowering plants.
6. Bike Festival (August 11): Nancy Allured said there is some concern that Front Street construction will
interfere with the usual parade route. The committee will plan an alternate route in case.
Unfinished Business:
1. Street Lamp Banner/Feather Signs—Design Contest: tabled
2. “Nurse’s Closet” Medical Equipment reuse: Nancy Flynn is still looking for a location.
New Business:
1. Share Table: Kay reported that the Agriculture Department notified all school districts nationwide that food
from the federally subsidized lunch program which will not be eaten should be made available to other
students. Many school districts have instituted this program with good results.
2. Paper Shredding Funding: Cathy moved that we allot up to $1500 to pay for the shredding trucks. David
seconded. The motion carried. Kay reported that DuPage County will reimburse $500 of the cost at a later
date.
3. Earth Day Proclamation: Kay and Ted worked on this, and it will be presented at the April 2nd City Council
meeting. Kay will attend to accept it.
4. Litter: Kay discussed the Pick Up 5 program that Bob developed. If each citizen picked up 5 pieces of litter
whenever they go for a walk, it would have a huge impact. Kay presented this to the DuPage County Forest
Preserve District, and they would like to implement it countywide. It is being presented to park districts too.
Adjournment: Kay moved that the meeting be adjourned. Nancy Flynn seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30. The
next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for April 24, 2018, at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Coleman
