Tuesday, February 25, 2020 7:30 I. Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:35. Present were Shamili Ajgaonkar, Cathy Coleman, Tony Majszak, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, Christine Richardson, Allison Torrence, and Bob Young. Absent were Nancy Flynn, Khizar Jafri, and David Popham. Also in attendance were Boy Scout Cooper Gosain and his father Lucky Gosain, and Tom Grimston. II. Approval of Minutes: Bob moved that the minutes from the January meeting be approved. Tony Majszak seconded. The minutes were approved. III. Budget Report: Bob reported that $5500.00 remains open to spend. IV. Public Comment: None V. Reports: 1. Electronic Recycling (February 8): Tony Pope reported that he and Bob, volunteer Jim Truesdale, and Allison and 2 boy scouts from SCARCE worked the event. There was a steady stream of cars with no backups. They collected 10 gallons of cooking oil and over 300 fluorescent bulbs and filled three gaylords of clothing. VI. Upcoming Projects: 1. Electronics Recycling (March 14): Bob, Tony Pope, and Tony Majszak will work this event. 2. Paper Shredding (April 4): Working Bikes will be there, Lions Club will collect glasses and hearing aids, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department will collect syringes, and paint will be recycled for a fee. 3. Arbor Day (April 24): Wiesbrook and Sandburg Schools will plant trees. 4. Native Plant Sale (April 25): Information for pre-ordering rain barrels is on the Wheaton Park District website. Communications Department will send out information. 5. Prairie Path Clean Up (April 25): Christine will send out “Save the Date” emails this week. 6. Adopt a Highway: Nancy sent two dates, and members chose March 28 as the first clean up of the year. VII. Unfinished Business: 1. Nurses’ Closet: Nancy emailed that she is working with Susan Bishel on this project. 2. Honorary Ideas (Myrt, Howard, Phil): Working on some ideas 3. New Green Plan/Strategic Plan: List is at the end. Allison and Shamili will work on this and prepare a review draft by mid-March, so it is available for the city’s subsequent April Strategic Plan Workshop. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES February 25, 2020 VIII. New Business: 1. Solar Workshop: Christine contacted the Chamber of Commerce and they are interested in a “Lunch and Learn” on the topic. She is working on a program with information and opportunities to sign up for available programs. 2. Restore Presentation will be at the March meeting. IX. Adjournment: Cathy moved that the meeting be adjourned. Bob seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35. The next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for March 24, 2020, at 7:30 P.M.
