ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
WHEATON CITY HALL, 303 W WESLEY STREET, WHEATON, ILLINOIS 60187

I. Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30.
Present were Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, David Popham, Stephen Siemer,
Allison Torrence, Seema Wadia, Jim Wozniak, and Bob Young. Absent were Jim Boak and Brian
Malone.
ll. Approval of Minutes:
Bob moved that the minutes from the March meeting be approved. Tony seconded. The minutes
were approved by unanimous voice vote.
Ill. Budget Report:
Bob reported that expenditures to date equal $1424, leaving a $34,326 open to spend.
IV. Public Comment: NONE
V. Reports:
1. Adopt a Highway: oNancy reported that she, David, Nancy Allured, and Bob cleaned up along
Butterfield Road on March 29. They collected 4 bags. Seventeen members of the Democratic
Party of Milton Township cleaned their area on April 12. They collected 7 bags of trash and 4 bags
of recycling.
2. Recycling Extravaganza (April 12): Kay reported these totals, with the rest coming next
month:0Working Bikes collected 41 bikes and various bike parts and equipment oThe DuPage
County Sheriff collected 11 boxes of medicines, syringes, and sharps—the most at any collection
oMelba’s Closet collected 47 walkers and 11 wheelchairs oLions Club collected 417 pairs of
glasses and 12 hearing aids 0Accurate Documents shredded 30,000 pounds of paper OSCARCE
collected 56 boxes of books OEarthbound Paints collected 6 quarts, 151 gallons, 7-5 gallon
buckets, and 40 aerosol cans
Vl. Upcoming Projects:
Electronics Recycling (May 10): Tony and Bob will be there.
Arbor Day Whittier School (April 25): 9:30am: Kay will be there with Alderman Weller
Native Plant Sale (April 26): Tony reported that set up is Friday at noon and the sale starts
Saturday at 9
4. Prairie Path Clean Up (April 26): Seema reported that 44 people are signed up, and additional
people who called were given other areas in Wheaton that may need cleaning.
VII. Unfinished Business:
1. Parkway maintenance and landscape ordinance memos: tabled
2. Recycling investigations for pallets, multi-family food scrap composting, and restaurant glass:
Jim Boak sent info on companies that take pallets, but they want 200 at a time.
3. Adopt a Highway (May 17): Nancy set EIC’s second clean up. Meet at Chick.Fil.A at 8am.

VIII. New Business:
1. Proclamations: Ted attended the City Council meeting on April 21 and accepted the Earth Year
Proclamation.
2. Funding for EIC Events: none needed
IX. Adjournment:
Bob moved that the meeting be adjourned. Steve seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40.
The next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for May 27, 2025, at 7:30 P.M.
