City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission City Hall Minutes February 2, 2016 1. Call to Order President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 7:02. Those present: Sarah Anatas, Bill Austin, Mike Bock, Dee Hicks, Greg Schreck and Kathy Young. Absent: Tony Asta 2._________Public Comment None 3. New Business A Dee moved and motion passed to accept the agenda as presented B. Mike moved and motion passed to accept minutes from November 24th meeting C. Abolitionist Event Discussion: Dee didn’t think The Cornerstone was a vehicle to be presented to the public. Mike is still working on an outline coordinated with David Malone’s illustrations to be presented to middle school students. Greg suggested that Mike talk with David Maas as to which illustrations would be most effective and ask for help in writing a narrative to coordinate with visuals. D. No date has been set for Music in the Park. Bill will keep us informed E. We talked about presenting an event similar to the “There Is Room At the Table” event incorporating a mural to be painted on a downtown building. The parking lot behind Wheaton Drama and Wheaton Grand was suggested where the event could take place, as well as the possibility of painting a mural on one of the buildings. Greg will contact a Wheaton College Art Professor to search out interest. Ethnic groups would be contacted to encourage this cultural event by serving various types of foods and presenting dance and wearing native costumes. This event would be planned for fall. Come ready to discuss logistics at next meeting. 4. Old Business 5. Miscellaneous Motion to adjourn was made by Bill. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:55 Next meeting scheduled for March 20.
