Discussion relating to the golf project: Tony presented an outline he prepared that
included objectives, activities and sponsorship opportunities.
Objective: inform the public of Wheaton’s involvement in golf.
Activities: 18 golf balls placed throughout the downtown area. Each ball will be
decorated in motif (logistics have to be determined). There will be a score card
designed to correspond with locale of balls and history of a golfer (logistics have to
be determined). Lightpost banners need to be designed (logistics have to be
determined) A display of artifacts owned by the City and Alberta Albertson needs
to be decided upon. Dee will contact Alberta and discuss possibilities. Cantigny
and Arrowhead golf courses should be encouraged to have special activities during
this time period. Dee and Laurie will discuss the organization of a reception.
Sponsorship: Golf Balls, Score Cards, Display Banners. As soon as we have
approximate costs of these items we will determine the cost of sponsorship.
Commissioners are encouraged to talk with possible sponsors and tell them what
we are planning and the cost for them to participate. Tony is looking into
converting information sheet into a brochure which will be used as a recruitment
piece.
Mike has talked to the Mayor and has had positive vibes, however, funding needs
to be determined.
We were advised that Front Street will be torn up during this timeframe.
Mike will have quote for golf balls on 11/16 and will forward to us.
Laurie will talk to Mike Bernard and inform him on what we are planning and how
the Park District could work with us to present this event.
Sarah checked with China manufacturer of large golf balls, however, all signs were
negative regarding business ethics so we will continue to contact Bush Plastics.
