City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission City Hall March 7, 2018 Minutes 1. Call to Order President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM. Attendees: Sarah Antas, Tony Asta, Bill Austin, Mike Bock, Laurie Swanson Oberhelman Absent: Dee Hicks and Kathy Young 2. Public Comment None 3. New Business A. Motion to approve agenda made by Sarah. Seconded by Tony. Agenda approved. B. Motion to approve minutes made by Mike. Seconded by Tony. Minutes approved. 4. Old Business A. Ball information/Sponsors. 1. Mike spoke with Bush Plastics (golf ball manufacturer). Busch reported that they could move quicker on the balls and this would give us a little more time to find sponsors. New date to finalize sponsors is March 31, 2018. Bush said that paint will cure over 30 days and that balls do not need to be sprayed with a finish, which will also give us more time. Mike also spoke with lady at 1 Shot paint store. At store’s request, Mike sent additional info on project and is hoping they may donate some pant. Bill asked if smaller quantities of other colors may be available to artists. Mike will inquire. Bill said some artists will want to use their own paints. 2. Mike received letter from Northwestern Medicine asking if they would have exclusivity as a health care company sponsor at the Eagle Level. Mike told them yes. 3. Mike is calling some golf ball manufacturing companies to see if they might be interested in sponsorship. They will get back to him with the names of their representatives. B. Sponsorship 1. Laurie gave an update on new sponsors. Wheaton Park District and First Trust have paid and are our two Albatross Level sponsors. Showalter Roofing has agreed to sponsor a Birdie Level ball. 2. USGA is interested in sponsoring but needs a W9 form before they can proceed Laurie will get it from City and send it to USGA. 3. Laurie is following up with several other sponsor possibilities. C. Budget/Reception 1. Mike has compiled a spreadsheet allowing for a variety of outcomes in the financial response to the golf ball project. Mike feels that at this point we will be able to cover our expenses. 2. Laurie spoke with USGA and they are considering co-hosting the reception at Arrowhead with us. All members agreed this would be very beneficial for our budget. D. Artists 1. Bill is putting together a booklet for the sponsors. Booklet will include list of artists and links to samples of their work. Bill composed guidelines that artists must use. 2. Bill and Laurie are working on finding location(s) for artists to paint balls. 5. Miscellaneous Motion to adjourn made by Mike. Seconded by Sarah. Meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm.
