January 26, 2021 Virtual meeting via Zoom
I. Call to Order
President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Those present: Sarah Antas, Tony Asta, Mike Bock, Dave Duve, Dee Hicks, Laurie Swanson
Oberhelman, and Kathy Young. Also present was Bari Ericson.
III. Approval of agenda
Mike Bock moved and Tony Asta seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion approved by
unanimous voice vote.
IV. Public Comments
Bari Ericson introduced herself. She is employed at the Wheaton Library and is interested in
how our Commission operates.
V. Approval of Minutes
Mike Bock moved and Dave Duve seconded the approval of November 24 minutes. Motion
approved by unanimous voice vote.
VI. New Business
. Music in the Park: The event is tentatively scheduled for July 25 at 3:00 p.m. with three
performers. Tony will contact previous sponsors to confirm their interest in the 2021 event.
. Festival of Cultures: Dee Hicks moved and Sarah Antas seconded our support of a high
school project to design a graphic image for this event. The prize will be $100. Motion
approved by unanimous voice vote. Tony will work on time lines and student waivers.
Dee Hicks moved and Tony Asta seconded that the Commission donate $1000 toward the
payment of performers and a sound engineer. Motion approved by unanimous vote.
. Sports and Arts Committee: The Chamber of Commerce has formed a new committee
which Mike Bock attended. He will attend future meetings to determine what we can do to
assist in this new endeavor.
VII Old Business
(no action taken) Golf Balls: The City would like removal of the balls asap. Mike will draft a
letter to Windermere asking permission to destroy. A waiver will be sent to the artist after
call to them. Mike will check and see if City will allow placement of ball in the back lobby.
(no action taken) List of future projects. The following are up for discussion: Live tour of
artistic interests, monthly event, i.e. art of bee keeping, pottery building, sculpturing, water
color painting, locks and/or frames throughout city. Swedish Sister City culture, food tasting.
FINE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

. Fire hydrant painting: Mike Bock talked with Villa Park personnel and learned that
residents adopted, painted and maintained fire hydrants. He is following up with logistics of
such a program.
. Artist’s prints: Dave Duve found note cards printed with Wheaton scenes. The artist is
Christopher Arndt. He will reach out to him and discuss the possibility of printing these
scenes on Christmas ornaments. Another possible artist is Jolene Steele.
. Window Painting: Laurie Oberhelman received recap from Elle (DWA). This will be
forwarded to you under separate e-mail.
VIII Adjournment
. Kathy Young moved and Mike Bock seconded to adjourn meeting at 6:48. Motion approved
by unanimous voice vote.
