February 23, 2021 Virtual meeting via Zoom I. Call to Order President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. II. Roll Call Those present: Tony Asta, Mike Bock, Dave Duve, Dee Hicks, Laurie Swanson Oberhelman, and Kathy Young. Absent: Sarah Antas. Also present was Bari Ericson. III. Approval of agenda Mike Bock moved and Dee Hicks seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. IV. Public Comments Bari Ericson joined our meeting. She is employed at the Wheaton Library and is observing the workings of our Commission. V. Approval of Minutes Mike Bock moved and Tony Asta seconded the approval of January 26 minutes. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. VI. New Business Fire Hydrant Painting: Mike Bock talked with John Duguay, Assistant City Manager, and was encouraged by his enthusiasm for this project. Before we progress, Mike Bock will talk with Wheaton’s Fire Chief to obtain his approval of such a project. Things to consider include: where fireplugs should be painted, i.e. business district vs. neighborhoods, paint packets, timetable, artist enlistment, coop with Chamber and/or DWA VII Old Business Music in the Park and Festival of Cultures: We are awaiting confirmation of the dates by the Park District. We should know by April 1 if July 25 and September 12 meet their approval. At which time we can proceed with plans. Golf Balls (No Action Taken): The City would like removal of the balls asap. Mike will draft a letter to Windermere asking permission to destroy. A waiver will be sent to the artist after call to them. Mike will check and see if City will allow placement of ball in the back lobby. List of future projects (No Action Taken). The following are up for discussion: Live tour of artistic interests, monthly event, i.e. art of bee keeping, pottery building, sculpturing, water color painting, locks and/or frames throughout city. Swedish Sister City culture, food tasting. FINE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES February 23, 2021 Artist’s prints (No Action Taken): Dave Duve found note cards printed with Wheaton scenes. The artist is Christopher Arndt. He will reach out to him and discuss the possibility of printing these scenes on Christmas ornaments. Another possible artist is Jolene Steele.
