Fine & Cultural Arts Commission

May 25, 2021 Regular Virtual via Zoom and live meeting in Gamon Room, Wheaton City Hall I. Call to Order President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Roll Call Those present: Via Zoom Sarah Antas, Tony Asta, and Laurie Swanson Oberhelman. Live atttendees: Mike Bock, Dave Duve, and Dee Hicks. II. Approval of agenda Mike Bock moved and Dave Dumas modified the approval of the agenda. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. III. Public Comments N/C IV. Approval of Minutes Tony Asta moved and Sarah Antas seconded the approval of the minutes of May 24, 2021. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. V. New Business Festival of Cultures: Artwork for poster was discussed and recommendation was made to ask artists to make several alterations and return to Commission within the next seven days. Music in the Park: Tony Asta has commitments from Joe Filisko and Eric Noden, Small Potatoes, Brendan Bulger and Jim Dewan (Brendan is an all Ireland and US National Fiddle Champion, Jim is a Champion Irish backup guitarist). Date of Music in the Park is July 26th 2- 6pm VII Old Business Fire Hydrant Project: The waiver has been revised, but eight pages is still too long. Project was tabled until next meeting. Mural Project: Laurie Oberhelman presented a new project initiated by The Perfect Thing at Hale and Liberty Streets. The east wall of the building is being considered for a mural which costs will be underwritten by the building owner and retail business. Laurie will check budget and we will discuss the logistics next meeting of the Commission. Laurie Oberhelman moved and Mike Bock seconded to adjourn at 6:42 Motion approved by unanimous voice vote.
