December 10, 2024 Gamon Room, Wheaton, City Hall Minutes 1. Call to Order President Lewis Achenbach called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Mike Bock , Dee Hicks, Randy King, Lewis Achenbach, Vittoria Clay, Christine Denz and Lynette Zelis. Absent: Sarah Antas and Victoria Isikman. Also present: Bari Ericson from the Wheaton Public Library. 3. Agenda: Mike Bock moved and Dee Hicks seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried. 4. Approval of Minutes: Mike Bock moved to accept June 26, 2023, minutes. Vittoria seconded. Motion carried. 5. New Business: Bari brought us up to date on Hokusai-inspired public art mural. Mike Bock moved to donate $50 to the Wheaton Library Hokusai mural. Christine seconded. Motion carried. Bari will follow up. 6. Old Business: Arts sub-committee: Randy King brought us up to date on progress of French Market mural. He has met with Mike Dzugan and is starting the process to find the artists needed to complete project. JCS Matching Grant: Lewis Achenbach has made the necessary recommendations on the City of Wheaton submitted JCS application. Make Music project will start on June 21 – tabled discussion to next meeting. Adjournment: Lynette Zelis moved and Mike Bock seconded the meeting be adjourned at 6:38. Motion carried. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 6pm In-person Special Meeting: Gamon Room, Wheaton City Hall The Meeting of the Fine & Cultural Arts Commission will be held as an in-person meeting. Please note that civility and a sense of decorum will be strictly followed. The purpose of the Fine and Cultural Arts Commission is to: 1. Increase citizen access to the arts by providing leadership, advocacy, and the support for art that enriches the cultural vitality of our community. 2. Provide advice and work cooperatively with the city council to promote fine and cultural arts in the city. 3. Foster and promote an appreciation of fine arts within the city by enlisting and encouraging public and private agencies, as well as the general public, to support art and cultural events within the city. 4. At the request of the City Council, review and make recommendations directly to the City Council for artworks for public buildings and public spaces. 5. Assist in creating and maintaining a city-wide arts and culture webpage on the city website that includes links to art-related organizations and individuals who advance art in the city. I.
