Minutes of the City of Wheaton Historic Commission
June 19, 2018 Meeting
Held at City Hall, Wheaton, Illinois
Attendance
Present: Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Nancy Flannery (Chair), Emelie Engling, Maureen Fogerty, Tom Kay,
Steph McGrath (Secretary), Bob Purdy, Andrew Welker
Absent: Meaghan Jorgensen
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm
Approval of Minutes
Due to a file name mix up, the May 15, 2018 meeting minutes were not available for approval but will be
submitted at the next regular meeting of the Historic Commission.
Old Business
-The Commission discussed adding more coordinators for managing Pride in Preservation signs
-Nancy announced that the Wheaton’s Golf History exhibit is up at the Wheaton Public Library. She also
passed out tickets for the ribbon-cutting opening of the Arrowhead golf history exhibit. Bob volunteered to
attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and to handle distribution of the tickets.
-Nancy has submitted the Commission’s annual report.
-The Commission received an update on the Downtown renovation project. The Original 10 Blocks site
marker has been taken down and will be relocated to a different spot and mounted on a different bollard.
Steph volunteered to be the Commissioner who coordinates with John Duguay, Assistant City Manager.
-The railroad site marker to be installed at the UP/Metra Station was discussed. The Commission reviewed
mounting sites and methods.
New Business
-Maureen has been reappointed
-The election of officers was held as follows:
Nancy for chair, moved by Bob, seconded by Maureen, passed unanimously
Barb for vice chair, moved by Steph, seconded by Bob, passed unanimously
Steph for secretary, moved by Bob, seconded by Emelie, passed unanimously
-There was discussion of long-range planning to control level of engagement. The possibility of holding a
separate planning session was introduced. The Commission wants to stay open for things that come up.
Commissioner Comments:
-Emelie reported that Shane’s Deli, the old Cock Robin, has been saved again and will continue in business
-Bob was in Cape Girardeau, Mo at a tourism conference and learned that Southeast Missouri State has a
preservation program
-Maureen brought in a brochure from Evanston’s house walk
-Andrew is reading Ida Tarbell’s biography of Elbert Gary
-Barb enjoyed the meeting at Cantigny, especially being there after hours. She also attended the recent
Sheldon Peck presentation held at the DuPage County Historical Museum.
Adjournment
Bob moved to adjourn, Andrew seconded, the motion passed unanimously and the meeting concluded at
8:10 pm.
