Held at City Hall, Wheaton, Illinois
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7 pm.
Present: Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Nancy Flannery (Chair), Emelie Engling, Maureen Fogerty, Steph
McGrath (Secretary), Bob Purdy, Andrew Welker
Absent: Meaghan Jorgensen, Tom Kay
II. Public Comments
None
III. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the July 17, 2018 meeting were approved as amended on a motion by Bob, seconded by
Maureen and passed unanimously.
IV. Old Business
A. Historic site marker. No update on railroad station marker
B. WW1 bike tour next weekend
C. Golf sites map will be made available online thru city. Nancy is working with the City GIS officer. It is
not known if a printed version will be available yet. It was agreed that there is a need to update the map of
Wheaton Register of Historic Places and/or significant historic sites. Nancy will look into different
designations assigned by the Historic Commission to Wheaton locations.
D. Nancy and Steph attended the Adams Park planning meeting. The DuPage County Historical Museum
did find the paper Adams files. Nancy has sent away for a copy of the Katharine Adams Wells’ will.
V. New Business
None
VI. Commissioner Comments
Emelie: She has learned that there was a Mark Twain swimming camp here; Nancy has a postcard that
might relate to this and will send Emelie a jpg of the postcard.
Bob: He passed out the summer issue of Preservation Magazine. Bob commented that the cover article on
theaters reminds him of Wheaton’s historic theater. Bob also took a tour of Union Station last month and
shared handouts.
Steph: She brought to the Commission’s attention that the old house at the SW corner of West & Prairie is
being rehabbed and expanded, not torn down.
Andrew: Since there are more candidates for Wheaton’s mayoral race now, he would like to get some
questions together re their views on preservation and invite them to a meeting.
Maureen: She is looking for an asbestos removal company and asked for suggestions.
Barbara: She recently went to the Illinois State Fair and several local historic sites.
Nancy: She gave an update on the Wheaton Historic Preservation Council.
VII. Adjournment
Emelie moved to adjourn, Barb seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at
8:15 pm.
