I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
Present: Nancy Flannery (Chair), Barbara Dutton (Vice Chair), Steph McGrath (Secretary),
Linda Moran, Bob Purdy
Absent: Emelie Engling, Andrew Welker
Public Comments: Frank & Mary Beth Leone
II. Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the September 17, 2019 meeting were approved as amended on a motion by
Bob, seconded by Linda and passed unanimously.
III. Old Business
A. Downtown RR depot marker: The Commission wants to have photo retouching done on
one of the images to be used in the RR depot marker. Nancy has looked at the
Commission’s agreement with the DuPage County Historical Museum governing the use of
their image. The Commission is allowed to alter the photograph. Steph contacted the
DuPage County Historical Museum and was given permission to alter the photograph
without needing to make notation re: alteration on the sign.
B. The City has informed the Commission that one of the two Original 10 Blocks historic site
markers will be relocated from the NW corner of Liberty and Hale to the NE corner of that
intersection. The other Original 10 Blocks historic site marker has been relocated from its
former site at the NW corner of Front and Main Streets to a spot west of that intersection
and has been remounted on a CA&E RR baluster instead of a bollard.
C. Bob informed the Commission that the CA&E RR downtown station marker draft layout is
now being prepared by Nameplate Technology and that even with text edits only one
photo will be allowed.
D. Frank & Mary Beth Leone attended this meeting to discuss their Wheaton Register
application for 218 N Ellis Ave. They had done more research in tax records and other
sources to verify construction date and the history of owners and residents. After the
review, and their agreement to submit a revised synopsis, they left the room to allow
commission to discuss and vote. Linda moved and Bob seconded to accept their
nomination, and it passed unanimously. They were called back in to hear the results.
E. Nancy gave an update on the Jarvis Hunt golf cottage at 534 W Roosevelt Rd and the This
Place Matters campaign. Bob had made the official TPM sign to hold in photo. Discussion
was held on doing additional historical Wheaton homes to submit to the TPM/National
Trust website as well.
F. Updating the Pride in Preservation signs was discussed. The Commission still needs to see
what costs would be to replace signs, and to review potential new slogans.
G. Zach Bishop at the DuPage County Historical Museum has contacted the Commission with
information about two more time capsules the DCHM has discovered. Nancy has sent the
information and news articles to Arin Thrower to add to the Commission's list on the City
website; the update has been posted on the Commission’s webpage.
IV. New Business
A. Remote attendance procedures will be discussed after Nancy has sought clarification.
B. Commission vacancies need to be filled. Ways to reach out to potential Commission
members were discussed. It was agreed that social media experience is desirable.
V. Commissioner Comments
‐Linda: her plaque is up and lovely.
‐Bob: took tours of Shipshewana and the Elmhurst quarry. He highly recommends the
tours
‐Barb: there is a Victorian Society of America event coming up at Glessner House in
November.
VI. Adjournment
Steph moved to adjourn, Bob seconded, the motion passed unanimously and the meeting
concluded at 9:15 pm.
