History booklet reissue: Zach Bishop at the DuPage County Historical Museum wondered if we could make a transcription of the text of Wheaton and Its Homes. They plan to post it on the Illinois Digital Archives and they like to include a transcription so text shows up in searches. Nancy will see if the typeface works with an OCR scan, and if it works, Steph will proofread it and make any needed text corrections. There is some interest in the booklet. It was recently discussed on the You Know You’re From Wheaton If... Facebook page. Steph alerted Gretchen Murphy at the Wheaton Public Library so she could post that the library has copies to lend and that the 1906 captive airship photo is scanned and available on their website. E. Cantigny/McCormick Mansion: Nancy would like to get a copy of the building plans showing changes to the historic interior. Will Bulig gave her a name to contact for the request. IV. New Business A. City Budget: Nancy saw finalizing the Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan is in the budget for 2021. Camiros would like to utilize zoom meetings to finish the process, but some city council members would like to wait till the public can meet in person. Nancy has contacted Camiros, providing a list of the historic structures in the corridor in hopes they include it in the report and plans. Some are particularly significant: the Warren L Wheaton home, the Jesse Wheaton barn foundation and the Jarvis Hunt golf cottage. Also in the budget on pages 221 and 227 are a couple of TIF district projects that should be reviewed for historic structures. B. Preservation Easement: Bauer & Bauer (Dental) are concerned about the Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan’s possible impact on their building, the historic Warren L Wheaton home. They are interested in securing a preservation easement. It was suggested that they confer with Landmarks Illinois and the State Historic Preservation Office. C. Home History Research: We need to get info on the Wheaton Public Library website about on demand home history research assistance. Need to figure out how it can be featured on the homepage, not just buried in the calendar. Steph will check with Gretchen. V. Commissioner Comments Bob: National Trust made a grant this year to Landmarks Illinois for The Women Who Built Illinois, to highlight women’s uncredited contributions to Illinois’s built environment.
