The meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm.
Present/in person: Nancy Flannery (Chair), Lisa Buchanan
Present/virtual: Barbara Dutton-Thomas (Vice Chair), Steph McGrath (Secretary), Diane
Burant, Linda Moran, Bob Purdy
Absent: Emelie Engling

II. Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the November 17, 2020 meeting approved as amended, moved by Barb,
seconded by Bob, and passed unanimously. Minutes of the January 19, 2021 meeting
approved as amended, moved by Linda, seconded by Lisa, and passed unanimously.
III. Old Business
A. Site markers: Have received invoices from Nameplate.
B. History booklet reissue: Nancy asked Zach Bishop at the DuPage County Historical
Museum for a sample scan of a few pages of Wheaton and Its Homes and is waiting for a
response.
C. Commission members: Welcomed new member Lisa Buchanan, Andrew Welker has
resigned.
D. Landmark application: Reviewed application submitted by Scott Berger for his home at
418 S. West. Discussed sources used, what they revealed, and possible built dates of
1902, 1903, and 1904. Based on tax records 1903 appeared to be the correct date, but
there may be some info in newspapers and if so we could amend the application. Steph
moved that the application be approved for Historic Significance, Architecture, and Age
and the built date of 1903, Bob seconded and it passed unanimously.
IV. New Business
A. National Register: The Chicago Golf Club has been added to the National Register of
Historic Places. This might be something to highlight during Preservation Month.
B. DuPage Foundation: Nancy reported that the DuPage Foundation plans to feature
Wheaton philanthropists in the Daily Herald newspaper. Commission members had
some ideas, but require more info regarding the criteria.
C. Preservation Month: Would like to put up Pride in Preservation signs this year.
Homeowners get a letter, but commissioners place the signs without contacting them
personally. It was suggested this process be reviewed with City staff so they are aware
that placing and removing signs is contact free.
D. Cemetery Walk: Lisa was interested in the possibility of doing a cemetery history walk
with costumed interpreters. Discussed what types of organizations typically sponsor
these events, and the preparation, planning and staff/volunteer involvement required.
There may be a way we could feature the same history, but in a self-guided format.
V. Commissioner Comments
Steph: Reviewed some of our landmarked homes that have recently sold or are for sale.
VI. Adjournment
Barb moved to adjourn, Bob seconded, the motion passed unanimously; the meeting
concluded at 8:17 pm.
