Tuesday, February 20, 2024 Gamon Room, City Hall I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm Present In-person – Louise Ferrebee (Chair), Joe Szczepaniak (Vice Chair), Bob Purdy (Secretary), Mike Hill (Treasurer), Nancy Flannery, Syed Hussain II. Public Comments None III. Approval of January Meeting Minutes Approved on a motion by Bob, seconded by Nancy, and passed unanimously. IV. Treasurer Report: None V. Ongoing Business A. Self-guided Walking Tour of residential homes listed on Wheaton Register of Historic Places Map. Louise presented the map and details she developed of the first of four tours the commission is planning, “Touring Main Street and Wheaton Avenue.” The tour has starting and ending points of Memorial Park or Adams Park and covers 26 addresses. Addresses were assigned to members to research additional facts about each residence; this information will be included in the finalized tour. B. Future historical marker sites. The listing of potential new permanent historical markers discussed at the January meeting includes:  Adams Memorial Library (DuPage County Historical Museum)  DuPage County Courthouse and Courthouse Annex  Jesse Wheaton Home, 310 W Evergreen  Red Grange history in Wheaton  Chicago Aurora & Elgin maintenance shops and yard C. Final Approval of Historic Commission Handbook. Louise is making the changes that were suggested by the City; a copy of the final document will be given to John DuGuay, Asst. City Manager. VI. New Business A. Preservation Week May 2024 – a look ahead. To be discussed in detail at next meeting. HISTORIC COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Month Date, Year B. Home History Research sessions for Preservation Week 2024. These sessions for historic register applicants will be held at the Library on Thursday May 9 and Monday May 13 from 6 pm-9 pm on both evenings. VII. Updates A. List of Endangered Wheaton Historic buildings. The initial list includes the following properties. Additions will be ongoing and plans are to get wide attention to the list.  Grand Theater  534 W Roosevelt Rd (Golf Colony home)  310 W Evergreen (Jesse Wheaton home) B. Wheaton Register of Historic Places: application and support documentation on website. We are awaiting the City’s assistance in converting the new PDF documents to web pages. C. Revised Purpose Statement in 2024 Boards and Commissions Handbook. The City Council made this change at the February 20 meeting. VIII. Commissioner Comments. None IX. Adjournment.
